Hi, I am not sure if I am pregnant, I am a day late which I never am. But I was not exactly planning this and I am on paxil. I have already discussed with my ob about taking paxil while prego and she said I def need to go off of it. My question is I would not be dissapointed if I am prego but I have to ween off the paxil you cannot just stop taking it the physical side effects are awful that's why I still take it. So I want to know if any of you were on something when you found out you were prego and then went off. Did it cause any birth defects. I am not even sure if I am but want to be prepared.

What can I do next?

I was on lexapro when I found out I was pregnant and quit it cold turkey and didnt really have any side effects. I was pretty bitchy, but I chalked that up to quitting smoking cold turkey too.
I was about 6 weeks when I found out I was pregnant. I think the sooner you stop the better. My baby didnt have any birth defects. Im pretty sure its long term use while pregnant that can cause problems. But, like I said, sooner the better.

I have done both-- quit cold turkey for one pregnancy and slowly weaned off for another. No birth defects, but I can't remember at this point which meds they were, so the risks may be different. Older and wiser now, I would start tomorrow weaning off the Paxil at a rate that is safe for you. Then if you discover in a couple months that you are not pregnant, you can start it again. Good luck and God bless!

When I found out I was pregnant I was 5 1/2 months along. I had been on Effexor for a long time and they pulled me off of it and the side effects were HOOOOORRRRIIIBBBLLLEEE! After a few days they put me back on a lower dose until I delivered. My doctor said because I had been on it for awhile my body was use to it in my system. NO ISSUES AT ALL!

Oddly after I had my son I was convinced I was going to have bad PPD but the OPPOSITE happened. I weaned myself off and have NOT taken Effexor since he was two months old and he's almost five now. So strange.

I know they have linked anti-depressants to heart defects. My son was born with a complex heart defect--although I was never on any medication. I just know there can be a link because of all of my research.
