I recently had a D&C done on March 20. I was about 12 weeks but the baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks. I haven't got my period yet and usually my period is right on time. I've had 2 other miscarriages and after each one my period came within 4 weeks. They were all natural miscarriages. So I took a pregnancy test on Saturday and it was negative. My brother came into town so we went out and partied all weekend. I took another test this morning just because I had a feeling and it was positive. I am very happy but also very very nervous and scared! I don't have any symptoms. I just knew. Has anyone ever experienced this? Do you think the beer drinking all weekend hurt the baby? Or getting pregnant after a D&C before I even got my period? Please help! Thanks!!!
Thank you all for your responses! When I called my doctor that day to make an appointment the nurse said that it could just be my hormones acting up from the D&C. I'm not too sure about that since it's been almost 2 months. I took another pregnancy test today and it was still positive. My appointment is on the 23rd so I will let you know how that goes. It's going to be a long 2 weeks! I really do want to have another baby and I would be so happy if this all works out. I really don't have any symptoms though which I didn't have any with my first child though. I'm just praying! I know God already has a plan for me so we will just have to wait and see! Thanks again! I had a D&C right after a miscarriage and the doctor told me that afterward would be a very fertile time so I guess it is possible you are pregnant. I wouldn't worry about the beer drinking--my doctor told me to drink a glass of wine every night while I was pregnant (I don't like wine so I didn't do it much but I did have a glass here and there)--my kids are fine--17 and 18 year boys-big strapping boys--6'3" and 6'4". it's very common to get pregnant after a d&c. Don't worry about the partying- nothing can pass to the fetus right now. Just try to keep it clean and safe from here on out. I would take a pre-natal if your not already and eat healthy of course and try to get as much rest as possible! Take it easy and enjoy it! congratulations.
remember stress and over -extending yourself are the worst things you can do to your body and baby right now- so try to keep it low key and relaxing for a while.

I don't know about the drinking, but know that many people have and haven't had a problem. I definitely wouldn't be drinking AT ALL if you are trying to conceive. You need to prepare your body to accept a baby and with drinking (which isn't good for your body) is not doing that. Another thing you need to do is when you are looking to get pregnant is start taking prenatal vitamins BEFORE you conceive. I would go to the doc though for confirmation.
It is possible that you are pregnant but not likely. The lining of your uterus needs to heals to maintain a pregnancy and that usually takes a couple of months. But, if you are pregnant, don't worry about the health of the baby. I had a very difficult beginning to my 2nd pregnancy - my husband almost left me, taking our son with him - and didn't realize until much later that I had been pregnant the whole time I was drinking myself into a stupor every night. I compounded the difficulty of that whole time with worry about the baby I was carrying...turns out she's fine - not as big as my other babies, but the strongest and healthiest of them all. Don't let your fears keep you from giving your baby (if you are indeed carrying) your healthy emotional state. Relax and eat right and behave yourself from this moment on! You can't worry about what happened in the past, prior to knowing that you were possibly pregnant. You should get a blood pregnancy test to prove it. Also, the most important thing is that you need prenatal vitamins. Since you just miscarried, hopefully you are still taking them. There is a possibility that you still have left over pregnancy hormones from the miscarriage. Some people take a while for their body to get back to the prepregnancy hormone level. Good luck!

I don't know anything about getting pregnant soon after the D&C but I can tell you not to worry about the partying over the weekend. My birthday was on a Friday and I thought maybe I was so I took a test on Thursday and it came up negative. I partied like a rock star for my birtday and then five days later still no period. So I took another test and two pretty pink lines showed up. I told the doctor about what I had done and he said not to worry that most women don't even know they are pregnant the first seven weeks that they are, and everything would be fine. Of course I didn't do it again once I found out and we had a perfect ten fingers, ten toes, baby boy nine months later!
The beer shouldn't hurt the baby - I had the same concern when I found out I was pregnant! The doctors told me that for the first two weeks after conception, nothing is actually passed to the embryo. I think it's nature's way of protecting us, since if we aren't trying to get pregnant, why would we check until we miss a period? About the D & C, I am not sure. I would get in with the OB/GYN very soon to make sure. Good luck to you!
