Potty Training My 2 1/2 Yrs Old Boy...

OK, I'm revising this to our newest issue, before we had no accidents and no poop, now we have nothing but accidents - poop & pee....he seems to have lost all interest in the potty, in fact he strongly resists going when I know he needs to, so I've stopped pushing him to sit on the potty. The only time he gets at all interested is when Daddy's around to take him...He gets pretty upset when he poops in his pants, but doesn't even care if he pees...It's been 10 days now, the first 5 were accident free and the last 5 have been a nightmare...my question is do you think I should stick it out or throw in the towel for now and try again in a few months?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, 2 weeks ago I gave up & put him back in diapers...by late afternoon that day he was crying and asking for his undies...so we went over things again and he promised to use the potty....and I'm happy to say that we haven't had an accident since! :) I guess he just wanted to be the one making the decisions - what ever works for him is fine with me!
Thanks to everyone for all the help and suggestions - you guys were great!

H.,

I have a son who is now 4...and I must admit that I never really went through the whole potty training thing, as my son amazingly started training himself at 17 months. But I so remember at one point after he was completely trained when he was around 2 he decided that he didn't want to go to the potty anymore, and just did not care. That only lasted a few days...but I was just besides myself at that time. I noticed the more upset I got at him, the more he did it. When I played it off kinda cool, it was over. Back on the potty he went! I personally think that letting it go, and putting him back in diapers / pull ups would be a big mistake. He will fall into that habbit. You never want to go backwards with a child. I hope this helps you in some way. Let me know how everything works out.

my boy was about that age when i started to potty train him also. i had the same problem, he didn't want to poopy in the toilet. i used kind of a bribe. you see, he really liked those stick on tatoos, and i told him that every time he went poopy in the potty he could choose one. and well before you know it, he wanted to go all the time. but the trick to this is, you can't give him his special treat any other time, only when he goes poopy. and it's my advice that you refrain from using food as an award. i hope this helps some.

Hello H.,

Plain and simple--your boy is probably on the young side but very close to being ready. When I started training my son--who is now six--I had similar issues. I called my pediatrician who said "let him do it in his time or else you'll mess up his body signals that tell him when he needs to go etc. and he'll have to go on special meds, etc." so I left him alone and just mentioned and offered it every day. Then close to his fourth!!!! b-day he wanted to go and the whole thing was taken care of within a week with no pain and suffering. I just kept his king potty in plain sight and read books to him about going to the potty.

Maybe that we'll help and your daughter will probably be trained by two by the way!!!

My son did the same thing when he was younger, and it had bad results. We had to lay off the potty training for about 6 months because he had it set in his mind that "pee pee on the potty" was a praise and "poopie" wasn't. He would hold it. We layed off of him for quite a few months and then slowely started again. He's pee pee trained all the way now, but still has accidents with poopie once in a while.

i know this is gonna sound a little crazy but see if he will play on the floor with you, have him lay down an moves his legs like hes riding a bike lol. looks kind of crazy too but it works. it gets his stomach moving around. i would do this a few times a day. my sister-in-law had this problem with my nephew and thats what the doc told her to do, plus warm apple juice. if that or anything else dont work, i would call the doc, to much build up cant be good for the little guy. good luck:-)

I wouldn't worry too much. My son (now 3) had the same issue. He was great - even keeping dry all night and during nap time. He did finally poo on the toilet, but it took a lot of urging on our parts. The only accidents he had were poo because he just didn't want to put it in the toilet. We tried bribing him with special treats and lots of praise. We still have to urge him sometimes when we can tell he has to go poo, but he is fine with it now. I think it was mostly a comfort thing. I guess it can be kind of scary when you're that small!

You can puta little mineral oil in his juice or whatever to make him go....also it takes them a little longer to get the hang of pooping on the potty. my daughter did the same thing. But you should callt he doctor after 10 days

Good luck!

My "trainee" just went 3 days with no poop. She is also a once a day kid, lol. She finally pooped in her "underwear", and we took it and dumped it in the potty and said bye-bye. Put now it's been 2 days again.
I know this doesn't help you.......but at least you aren't alone. :)
