Potty Training Help.......... Anyone Tried Potty Scotty?

First, my two boys (now 4 and 5 1/2) were not ready until their 3rd birthday. On that day, we made a big deal about the transition to "big boy" underpants and we threw away the diapers (except the overnight pull-ups, which we still used until about 3 1/2 when they had "nigthtime control." I waited until we had one week of dry wakings and then let them wear underwear at night.) I tried earlier with my first but it was frustrating for both of us and unsuccessful, so we decided that his 3rd birthday would be "the big day." It worked wonderfully! We put him in underpants on his birthday and of course had several pee-pee accidents during the week (I was lucky, my boys first learned to poop in the potty, it was pee-pee they had a problem with, but I know that is not always the case!) but usually just a leak before they realized how dire it was to get to the toilet. After one week of extra laundry, I made no fuss about the accidents, just said "oh well, it happens, but once you learn - there will be no more accidents!" and let him put his wet undies in the laundry and put on dry ones. I have two sons who are now adults and let me tell you potty training them was no picnic. Mom's just don't have the right equipment.

So here's what I did.....

Back in my day we had to be creative as there were not as many accessories to help as you young moms have now. Remembering that Cheerios float I made a game of target practice out of potty training. For the first couple of sessions dad should help since he has the same part ;-)

Dad showed them, with them on a step stool, how big boys relieve themselves and aimed straight for a Cheerio. The boys seemed to love this game; it's a guy thing I'm sure. It took less than two weeks to train.

When dad was not around I got my self a squirt gun and played with them. Once they get the hang of it BEWARE. You will probably be taken on several wild goose chases back and forth to the potty simply because they thinks its' so much fun.

Now when dad was away I would take them in with my squirt gun and play too!

Should you ever have a girl...use the magic water method: put a bit of food coloring in the potty seat so each time she goes she magically turns the water a different color. My girls loved the magical aspect potty training.

BTW - Target sells flushable pittle targets in the baby section should you find Cheerios disturbing.

Not sure if this is the kind of help you're looking for but I have 3 boys and no one was ready to potty train before they were 3. I tried earlier and it was frustrating for both of us. When I waited for them it only took a week and they were always dry. Just to throw that thought out there.

Ive never seen this one but two weeks ago I potty trained my not quite 2 1/2 year old twin girls. I found a guaranteed 3 day method that did not work. I tried my own method and it actually took 5 days. We stayed home, went to the store, went diaperless completely even at night and naps. We had accidents during the day and they had to help clean them up. They didn't really like the idea of having to use the potty, but then if they did they got a surprise. We never had one accident at night or during naps, only during the day. We started on Monday and by Friday they were both going on their own without being asked. It takes a few days for it to "click" and understand what their bodies are feeling. I did use surprises and of course chocolate. I also had them trow all of their diapers in the garbage, (I removed them later of course when they couldn't see). So if you'd like more detailed advice, send me a message.
