Potty Training Help - Crowley, TX

I have a son that is 3 1/2 that refuses to use the potty at home. He has been potty trained at his babysitters for about 6-8 mos now. I have tried several things, buying cool fun grown up underwear and trying to get our bathroom to look as much like the babysitters as possible and still nothing. Has anyone else had this issue?

What can I do next?

Although I have not come to that stage yet with my daughter, A very close friend of mine had a similar problem that she overcame with a reward jar. She had resisted the idea of rewards based on something she had read somewhere, but finally gave in to the idea. And within 2weeks they were diaper free. Just a simple jar with very basic little rewards to chose from, say a sticker or a plastic toy. It was more about getting to chose from the jar than what was actually in the jar. Good Luck.

I know it is a little different with boy and girls, but the training is the same. My daughter was potty trained before her sister was born 11 months ago. She would go potty at MDO but never at home. I tried rewards, cool potty chairs, underwear so she would see what being wet was like. Still nothing. So I asked around and was told to let it go. Ignore it and not make a big deal because it will just frustate you and your child. Kids all choose when they are ready. Now she started going number 2 in the potty. Today she is in underwear and we will see what happens. So far so good. After I stopped tryin gto make her, it took about a month. Hope that helps.

My son turned 4 last February and it has only been a couple of months since his last diaper (he is still wearing one at night). He knew what he was supposed to do and occasionally did it too, however was not interested. No charts or prizes helped me. It all changed when he stopped going to school and was home full time. I would just put his underpants (no training pants) on from the morning and made sure I had plenty of change of clothes. Within a week he was completly potty trained.

I know how hard it is. My only advise is just be patient. He will get there at his own time.

Good luck!

If there are other kids his age at the babysitter's house, then that is probably what is inspiring him to use it at her house. When they see their friends using it, it tends to make it easier for them to want to use it too. Both of my kids were so hard to potty train. I don't think there is an easy answer for this one--just keep trying. He WILL get it soon.

I used quarters, we would allow our son to go outside and pee on a tire, tree, shrub...etc to encourage him to control it at first because he refused to use the potty, then eventually we started with quarters giving him a quarter or betting him a quarter that he couldn't go potty in the potty. Eventually he began uping our bets and loved to spend his money on something he wanted. With our other son, everything had to be a game or a competetion in which he could win, otherwise he would not do it just for money or because mom or dad wanted him to. He would do anything for the babysitter but nothing at home, so we had to create fun potty games that involved competetion, whether it be a race to the bathrrom, who could make the most bubbles, who could pee the longest, who could pee the furthest (obviously, he would have to had another male to compete with), who could sink the cheerios or fruit loops, who could hit the target (a drop of chocolate syrup in the bottom of the toilet)...etc

I use to put pictures of my sons favorite characters (Bob the Builder) on the underside of the toilet lid and let him sit backward when he went to potty. For my daughter I put a star chart on the bathroom wall and when she used the potty all day she would get a star. At the end of the week she would get a prize if all the days had stars (Mcdonalds etc). Remember all kids are different-some will only use a potty chair while others will only use the toilet-Good Luck
