My son has been potty trained for about a year and a half now but he is still sitting on the toilet when he voids. What I want to know is when others sons started standing up while urinating? I know there is never a set age for children hitting the mile stones but I just wanted to get a general idea as to the ages of others. Also how parents went about it. I have heard of letting the father show them but my sons father is not around full time to reinforce the habit.
Well yesterday, Friday, I asked him if he wanted to stand up and he did it without hesitation. He sees another little boy at daycare who stands so he was more than happy to try it. He did fairly well, didint hit the floor, but got the rim of the bowl a little. I think his aim is better then his fathers though, lol! Thanks to everyone who responded!
There's not really a set age for when he should stand up, I think. Truthfully, I wish my son would still sit! LOL He doesn't do a very good job at aiming (tried everything) and he's been potty-trained for almost 4 yrs now.
Always with children, you make things fun! My mother had my brother pee in a mayonnaise jar! They lived in the country, so he could do it on the back porch. You could do it in the bath tub. This would not only have him standing up, but also will teach him to go in the toilet and not on the seat!

I've heard a lot of people use a game called aim for the cherrios. They put in the toilet and let him stand and aim for them. I wouldn't worry too much. It will come in due time. He'll eventually want to stand.
Neither of my son sat until they were in school. It was just easier for me that way. In fact one boy, 11 still sits most of the time. It won't hurt at all.
There really is no set age for a boy to stand. My oldest son to this day still prefers to sit, he's 15, but my other 3 boys all stand I can't really say when it happened, it just kinda did. You might try putting cheerios in the toilet and let him have "target" practice, this might make him more willing to try. Really there is nowhere that says a boy should stand I just think somewhere along the way they discovered it was easier.If you have a male friend or a brother who might be willing to point him in the right direction it might also help.

My oldest son was about 4 1/2 when he started peeing standing up. We were out camping and he said that he "had to go potty" so my husband took him aside and showed him how to do it. At first he was reluctant, but once he did it...well he has never gone back. My youngest son was about 2 1/2. He saw daddy and his brother doing it and he didn't even want to sit when he started potty training.

when my nephew (who is 21 now)lived with us when he was learning to potty train. luckily he had my dad to help him. but! i think back then it was they needed to learn to stand to pee sooner so he wasn't tall enough and i do remember one time at leat! that the lid fell down on him. that's not to say not to teach them to stand to pee. what i mean is i guess make sure they are tall enough even with a stool. my son is mastering all this too but i'm in no rush to teach him to pee standing up. from the classes i've taken and the things i've read. sometimes if they are taught to pee standing up too soon (like before mastering having a BM in the potty) they can then not want to sit down to learn to BM in the potty and then you have problems with constipation etc. so i woudl say there is no rush.
unlike some of the others said, if there is some sort of stigma that i'm not aware of.. if there is i'd love to hear it so i could be aware of it as i'm sure other moms would benefit as well :-))

Cheerios and a single drop of food coloring (it sort of blooms in the water) worked for my son. I know of 3 grown men whose wives have told me that they still sit. I don't think it matters unless there's some sort of stigma attached to it when they get into school.
