Hi Moms,

My son is now showing signs that he is ready to start the process of using the potty. I emphasize start, because I know it can be a long process. We have a Bjorn potty and he is pretty psyched about it. I am writing to ask about good book recommendations for myself and for my son. I found a few that seemed to get good reviews on Amazon but would really appreciate your input. For parents, I liked one in particular called Stress-Free Potty Training: A Commonsense Guide to Finding the Right Approach for Your Child by Sara Au and Peter L. Stavinoha Ph.D and for my toddler, A Potty for Me!: A Lift-the-Flap Instruction Manual by Karen Katz, The Potty Book and Once upon a Potty. I would like something that is positive, is easy for him to read while sitting on the potty and uses standard terms like pee and poop. Thanks in advance for your advice.

There's one called Potty Time for Boys (also available for girls) that my kids liked because of the flushing toilet sound button. Very basic and illustrated with a toilet rather than a potty chair. Also it's a board book.

If you show videos, Go Potty Go and Potty Power are both hits with my children with songs about using the potty, saying goodbye to diapers, and washing your hand. Yesterday my five year old wanted to watch Go Potty Go and then he and his 3 year old sister marched around singing "I'm Proud to Wear my Underwear"

As a side note, 19 mos is still on the young side: I hope you can harness his enthusiasm and train him early, but don't be surprised if his interest really wanes and resistence rears its ugly head! Good Luck!

It doesn't have to take a long time. Why don't you try the 3 day method at www.3daypottytraining.com. I used it with my son and it worked like a charm. That way, you don't have to worry with the books or videos.

Hi K.,

We use TV sparingly, but if you show videos, Elmo Potty Time is one that was great for us. It's really cute and positive and good for introducing potty training in a no pressure sort of way...
Good luck!!

PS> we have and have used all the kid's books you listed. Those were successful for us too!
