HELP! Currently I am potty training my 2 1/2 yr old girl and she's so stubborn. She goes dry in the day time @ preschool but wouldn't go potty at night. I know and Ive heard that going poop is the hardest on the children while potty training. What's the best way of getting her potty trained? My son did it on his own 1 month b4 he turned 3. So My daughter will be 3 in feb and only 3 months left to go. She's so stubborn. HELP!! Any Advice???

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

I trained both my daughters a little before 3 too. The best that worked was letting them wear princess panties that they loved and if they get them dirty, they would have to wear a plain one because the other was dirty:)
She will eventually learn, and not all kids are ready at the same time.
Also asking her every 5 seconds works too. (I am not exagerating when I say 5 seconds....just a little)
If you constantly ask for 2 or 3 days, she will be potty trained in no time! (I hope)It is also easier in the summertime....
Best of luck!

This sounds kinda gross....but I just potty trained my 3 year old daughter. I had the same problem she was stubborn!!! So I told her that her poop didn't want to get smashed in her big girl panties. I told her that her poop wanted to go swimming in the toilet (but I explained poop is the only thing allowed to swim in the potty). I then said that when she flushed her poop down it got to go on water slides and end up swimming with nemo. This may sound strange and a little gross, but it was the next day she pooped in the potty and has never had an accident. Hope this helps!! Good luck!!

My daughter is almost 3 1/2 and she still has times when she refuses to go on the potty. The thing that worked best for us was and still is positive reinforcement. We made a potty chart which is just a piece of paper with a grid drawn on it and it says Lillie's potty chart on the top in pink letters. Everytime she pees in the potty she gets one sticker and if she poops she gets two. I let her pick out her own stickers at the store and keep them where she can reach them. When a row is full of stickers which is 10 she gets a treat, which is anywhere from a trip to the dollar store for a cheap toy or just a piece of candy or cookie. This worked great and we are now on our third chart and she doesn't even ask for the treat anymore she cares more about filling the paper with pretty stickers. She has even started trying to potty train my 22 month old son which is very funny!! If stickers are not her thing just try to find something that she really enjoys to incorporate into her potty time. I also found a really good book titled My big girl potty, by Joanna Cole and Maxie Chambliss and we have read it a million times. She gets it out almost everyday and looks at it for a long time. She loves books so this was an easy way to talk to her about using the big potty. My doctor also suggested that we buy her panties with her favorite characters on them and then explain to her that Cinderella doesn't want her to pee or poop on her because it would feel very yucky. We did this too and it seemed to help. Good Luck and I hope this helps you!

I'm a little confused by your post: are you saying she wets at night, while asleep? That can be normal up to age 6.

Hey I just had this prob a few weeks ago!!! I asked for advice here and the ladies were GREAT with the advice!!!! The advice I liked the most was to not stress over it and not fight your daughter, she'll start when she's ready. We actually just started last Saturday after trying for a year and she's going every time she has to potty. She was as stubborn as your daughter, but we got some pennies together and started putting them in a cup every time she went potty. If she pottied, 2 pennies if she poo poos, 5 pennies and she loves putting pennies in the cup and counting. She gets to pick out the panties she gets to wear for the day or until an accident happens and she loves the fact that she's in charge of that. We didn't even use training panties because those didn't work for us. We just went for the real deal. We even brought the potty chair out into the busiest room of our house so she wouldn't feel left out and she'll even go without me, until it's time to wipe.

The Best of Luck to You,

M.

I recently experienced the EXACT same thing - older one did it on her own, but my dear stubborn youngest wouldn't stay dry at home. Would do it a Mother's Day Out all day though! I finally just told her that there were no more pull-ups and made her wear her big girl panties around. We had many accidents, but finally she got it down. I first tried it when she was about 2 1/2, but gave up - started back up again when she turned 3 and it went much easier. I think they have to do it on their own will - esp. w/the stubborn ones! - but also have to have the line drawn when they get old enough.

I would recommend not pushing her. Kids potty train at different ages. My daughter was 2 1/2, but when my son was 2 1/2 I thought that he should be potty trained & I fought with it until he was 3 1/2. In hindsight he was obviously not ready, but I thought he should be because my older child was. If you push it now when she is not ready then it may take you longer to accomplish in the long run. She just may not be ready. Have some patience, it will come naturally.

Well, I am going through the exact same thing! I don't know if it works yet so I am going to try it too but one of my friends suggested that I should take her to the potty every 30 minutes until she is letting me know she needs to go. This part has been working pretty well. I started less than a week ago and she is down to one accident a day. The night training is the hard work. Obviously put her in pullups. But then wake her up every couple of hours until her body gets used to waking itself up. Hopefully this works for both of us!! Good luck! L.

Hi S.,
My daughter was 2 1/2 when she was potty trained but we had no issues either way.
Now I watch a little girl that she is going to be 2 1/2 in late Dec. She can pee on the potty, she can stay dry all day long and she will tell you when she has to go, they only problem she won't poop in the potty. She will hold it for 3 or more days. So her mother has decided that until she is a little older we will go between panties and pull ups. If she feels like she has to go poop she will choose a pull up if no0t she will wear panties. During the day she will still go pee on the potty but if she thinks she has to go poop she will get in a pull up. She also has a new brother coming in March so we are not wanting to go backwards when he gets here. So my advice do what is best for your daughter, don't force the issue and wait for her to be ready.
