My best advise is wait till she is ready do not push it! For me the more I pushed it to get them trained early the more accidents I had to deal with. Sometimes they just arent ready.
My oldest trained almost all by himself at the age of 3, I tried to train my daughter earlier (because girls are suppose to be easier) and she had way more accidents then my son ever did. With my baby I plan to wait till he shows interest and is ready to go with it.

Also for us goody bags always made it fun! I went to the dollar store or got cheap things like packs of stickers a little mini bag of M&Ms, a match box car..etc and they got to pick something when they went potty. It was fun for them and I was glad to see them get so excited over something I thought would be so stressful.

Hang in there she will get it eventually!

My doctor gave me a VERY good piece of advice when I had the same concern. "I never knew anyone to go to college in a diaper" You have plenty of time. One trick for girls (and boys) is to let them run around and play with no clothes on. I know it sounds funny, but it works. It lets them figure out while it's happening where pee is coming from and what it feels like when they do it. It worked for my daughter and my nephew.

My mom used to just put me on the potty anytime she thought I might need to go (after a meal, before bedtime, etc.). Then she'd clean off a bathroom shelf or do something else right there with me until I used the potty. Apparently that worked for me because she said it didn't take long before I would go on my own.

Hi J.,

Don't feel bad that your child is not potty trained, my youngest was 3 before she really got the hang of it. It's just sort of one of those things they have to catch on to themselves and make the decision they don't want to wear dirty diapers anymore.

Have you tried getting one of those potty videos? Most of them are totally corny, but for us it help spark the conversation of going to the potty and what you do when you get there. Also, I found role play helped a lot as well- my youngest would take her stuffed animals to their pretend potty and make them go and wash their paws. I have also heard of an Elmo doll that goes to the potty has worked as well.
