My toddler is completely potty trained during the day and night for peeing. However he is not for pooping. He has always been really regular and now that he is in underwear sometimes he does not poop for a couple days .I am worried that he is holding it and this will cause him to be constipated. I offer him to sit on the potty and if he tries and he does not make it sometimes he will ask for a diaper so he can go. Any ideas on how to get him to be comfortable going on the potty? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

My daughter did this for a solid YEAR. Just encourage him to do the diaper thing, because he is having some kind of mental block about pooping. You can continue talking about it, reading the books, telling him when you are going, etc. but don't push him to poop in the potty, because my girl held it for days and became impacted. we had to use suppositories and give her fiber laxitives for a long time. She is 8 now, and she still will get constipated at the drop of a hat. After her year of being "peepee trained" she finally decided one day to poop on the potty and has been doing so ever since. He will get through it.

I agree with Ciji. This always work with me I have three sons and one did not go for the
treats he liked money so I would line up pennies and dimes for him and he did it every time
Balloons work also.

We just finished going through this. My daughter refused to poop on the potty for the longest time. She was pee trained for almost 4 months before she was poop trained. I kept hounding her and hounding her until it was a horrible struggle for both of us. We even wound up going back to pull-ups cause I was SO sick of throwing away underpants. Not the best move cause then she started to pee in them again. So..we went back to panties. I asked my husband to have a talk with her and explain that she can't go to pre-school until she poops in the potty. He was MUCH more calm with her than I had been. The next day she pooped in the potty and hasn't had an accident since. I think it just took me backing off a little bit. I've heard about poopy prizes like the previous poster mentioned, but that didn't work for us. Good luck! Potty training is so hard!

My son would hold his poop all day while in day care wearing underwear. He'd come home, ask for his diaper and poop. Finally one day I told him he had four diapers left. Each day after I reminded him how many diapers he had left. On the day we ran out of diapers he whined and complained for 20 minutes (his usual whining time)and then pooped in the toilet. We had tried books, toys, "poopoo candy", and nothing worked. Just keep trying things until something works. Good luck.

I had a little baskit with cheep little toys and treats in it. When my son used the potty he got to pick one thing out of it he wanted. It seemed to help my son. and when he did use the potty i told him how much a big boy he was with lots of loving and he would be soo excited about it and proud of his self. Good luck

Hi My name is A. My hubby and i have 5 kids three grown
I had 2 out of 3 boys that were the same way my 2nd son developed a plug from holding it in. we tried so many things than we gave up and put him in pullups Funny this totally cured him and when he was ready he went on the potty by him self i think he was almost 4 yrs old or couldve even been 4. He is now 19 and no-one can tell....10 yrs from now you will barely remember this
Sometimes the sensation is just to much specially if they are used to going poop standing up. If he is on the big potty putting a stool under his feet for suport can help.More water can help , but you probably all ready know that. Our other son would also ask for a diaper when he had to go we did allot w. him we had a reward system w. a sticker sheet and that did eventually work unfortunately he was also around 4. Some kids just take longer.one of our kids was completely potty trained by two and he inisiated it and was just READY thats one out of five kids.I think its important just to be patient and try to understand what a big thing this is for such a little guy. One day you will look back and see that it all seems to work itself out.You can even tell him mommy knows you will do it when you are ready. You are a big boy , you can do it! I hope this helped.

You know...I was like that as a kid too. I would hold it simply because I did not like the whole process. I eventually grew out of it. If you're afraid of him getting constipated make sure he gets fiber and juice and he really won't have much choice on whether he's going to go or not.
