Yesterday my daughter said poo-poo so i checked her diaper & she did, so i put her on the toilet, for 5 minutes she didnt do anything so i started taking her off but she through a fit so i left her on it, i waited 5 minutes & when i took her off she had did a bm, i praised her like crazy, this morning when she woke up her diaper was braely wet, i asked her if she had to pee-pee & she said yes so i put her on the toilet but did nothing, when i left is when she started peeing, so i am guessing that she doesnt like anyone in the room while she is peeing, she did the same thing 1time at her sitter today, my ? is, since she is now peeing in the toliet how much longer do you think it will be before she actually starts teling me she has to go potty? and untill she starts telling me, how often should i put her on the toilet?

What can I do next?

I am a big advocate of the "get rid of the diapers" method. With both of my girls, when they were ready, and so was I (YES, IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO BE READY FOR THIS LEVEL OF COMMITMENT!) We had a little discussion, read all the potty books and for the waking hours, wore panties. Yes, it is messy. This is how she will learn. You might have to ask her every 15 minutes. If she hasn't gone in an hour, sit her on the potty. If you need to get in the car, sit her on the potty. It will take as long as 2 weeks before she really "gets" it and can tell you before it starts running down her leg. No scolding, and big time rewarding has worked wonders for me! Bring the potty chair with you in the car. Pour out the pee in the grass and rinse it out with water. This has saved me many times!

Hi,
It shouldn't take too long, but every kid is different. Just continue what you are doing and the rest will happen naturally. Don't stop doing what you are doing or you could end up having to re-train. Don't let your guard down! It sounds like she is doing great!

Good Luck

I agree. Put her in panties and you should see pretty consistent results in 1-2 weeks. My daughter would get so upset when I asked her or put her on the potty myself (sounds like you have an independent one too). I left her in panties and bought extra carpet cleaner!! It did help to have one of the little potties because she would run over to it and sit so even if she didn't tell me or get her panties down in time at least she was on the potty. also, let her practice taking her panties/clothes/pullups on and off during the day. It may be awhile before you get trained during nap/night time but don't worry about that. My ped and a couple of books I read said closer to 3 years old for all nighters! My daughter is all potty trained now, but any time I come into the bathroom and she's already going she yells "shut the door" - it's not the sweetest command but I get the picture. I'm trying to teach her to say 'privacy please'. Good Luck.

Dear Desirae,

I don't know, but isn't that just the cutest? She is going to be an independent little thing. My daughter was that way too, and is still independent at the age of 46. C. N.
