My son will be three in April. He loves to go pee on the big potty but only when asked or I let him run around naked he will go sit on the potty. The problem I am having is he doesn't think of it when he has a diaper or clothes on. He will just pee. I cant let him run around all the time naked. And he definately wont do the other deed on the toilet no matter what I do.... Please let me know if you know any tricks.

What can I do next?

My son did exactly the same thing... it drove me crazy for a while. His birthday is also in April and it was about this time that I was thinking "my kid has issues"! However, it was shortly after his 3rd birthday that he not only potty trained very suddenly, but when he did he gave up every aspect of diapers... no pull ups, no wetting the bed, etc. Just be patient... boys take longer than girls generally and some boys take longer than others. I wouldn't say you have anything to worry about.

I am a single mother of a 3 year old little boy as well. He has been potty trained since he was 22 months. I found that if I put him in pull-ups they did not work because it felt the same as a diaper to him. However, when I put him in big boy underwear he felt like a big boy(take him to the store and ket him pick out the underwear he wants), and he also didn't like it when he wet his pants. I don't know anyone that likes to be wet. I also found that when I started potty training him, I took him to the bathroom every hour whether he had to go or not to get him in the habit of going. Keep your head up and don't give up. :-)

Have you tried training pants or underwear? One thing I did with my son was (and I let him run around naked too!!) I let him pick out some cool underwear, and told him "You can't pee pee on spongebob, he will be so sad!" Not sure if that will work for you. He still had accidents, but that helped. Also...don't put him in a diaper. He will associate diaper with peeing/pooping. They sell some really neat training pants with bugs, etc on ebay. They are plastic on the outside with elastic around the legs and on the inside is a thick cloth diaper material. They are machine washable/dryable. I had no leaks with these at all. I also used a rewards system with stickers and m&ms. They would get 1 for sitting on the potty, 2 if they peed, 3 if they pooped. You can use other candy/treats if you choose. Mine like chocolate! Here is a link to the training pants. They are wonderful! Good luck, be consistant and don't give up. You can do it!! :)

They do make these in different patterns and sizes. You can go to ebay and type in waterproof training pants, and see a list of all of them!

What worked for me with that is after a hour I always put them on the potty. My 2 year old potty trained herself but now even when I ask her if she has to go she tells me no and then 10 min later runs to the bathroom cause she has to go. Whith my oldest and 2 year old thats what I did every hour put them on the potty and if they go they go and if not ask them in a little while. Also the other moms had a good point only use the pull ups or diapers at night time and go get big boy underwear it will make him feel more like a big boy and I think that its a diffrent feeling if they potty in there diaper compared to there underwear. My kids were always naked or panies on. I hope that helps

I have a little girl, but what worked for me, was I took her to the store and bought her some big girl underwear, and we made a HUGE deal about these new undies!! We had a potty party and everything!! (You can get them pretty cheap at WalMart) I just made her run around any time that we would be at home for a while in just a T-shirt and her underwear! She was potty trained by the time she turned 3, and now that she's 4, she has an accident about once a month. If you're worried about carpeting, try plastic pants. They're right next to the cloth diapers, and they're big enough for a toddler since they're supposed to go over a bulky cloth diaper. Good luck!!!

I have a little girl, but what my aunt has told me worked for her two boys was to put cheerios and blue food coloring into the tolette. The cheerios work becouse it gives them a target, and the food coloring works, becouse it changes the color of the water.

Try making his potty training a competition, meaning, race him, or compete in some way. Boys thrive on compitition, it is in their nature. After he wins, he gets a joyous feeling, and you can even try rewarding him after he is finished.

my advice to you is to make a potty chart with stickers and tell him that when he is a big boy and goes without you having to ask all the time or when he has clothes on he can put stickers on it going number 1 he gets 1 sticker going number 2 he gets 2 stickers and when both is done 3 stickers. that is 1 of the things that worked with my daugter
good luck with that

hi K.,
I definitly agree with all the other mommies about getting big kid underwear. As far as well, pooping on the potty, the first thing to do is to make sure he is not constipated. If it hurts to go, he won't want to do it. Next step is to put him on a potty seat when you know he is "due to go" WITH A DIAPER ON! He may be feeling possesive over his you-know-what and not want to part with it, or the sound of the splashing may scare him. Read a book, sing a song, etc. When he starts to go on the potty with the diaper on, and is comfortable with this, the next step is this: when he is due to go, take a diaper when he is out of the room and cut a hole in the bottom. put this one on him and set him on the potty and let him go that way. He will still feel secure with having the diaper on and should be able to go. definitly still use a little potty for this-the whole splashing thing. Also, if he doesn't seem to want to see his uh, production, don't show him. My daughter was scared to look at hers! After a while, you will probably be able to have him go potty sans diaper!

I hope this helps you-I got it from my pediatrician, and had to do it with my son. He was potty trained at 17 months-number two included! :)

My son is 3 1/2 years old and has been going pee on the toilet for a while, however it wasnt until I found something he really wanted to do that he would go poop on the toilet. He loves baseball and wants to play something fierce so we have a deal. He gets to play baseball in the spring if he goes poopy on the toilet and not in his diaper. We have not had to change a poopy diaper in about two weeks. He still doesnt always tell me when he has to go, but hes getting better. I hope this helps.
