my daughter is 18 months old and I need advice, tips, suggestions, anything anyone has to offer about how and when to introduce the potty chair. What are signs that she's ready? I work three 12 hours shifts every week so she has other caregivers.

What can I do next?

I'm going through the same thing right now.My daughter is 20 mo. and sees her brother going potty in the big potty and doesnt understand why she has to sit.we got her a childs potty and set it in the livingroom so she could get used to it(or wherever she plays most).after her nap yesterday i took her diaper off and sat her on it and she peed!!then i turned on a movie for her and sat her on the potty about every 15 minutes and when she looked like she needed to go and she did it again.you have to make sure shes ready though.there are a lot of websites to go to like http://www.drgreene.com/54_19.html . just be patient, positive and every time she goes in the potty get excited.also what helped my son was making a potty chart and everytime they go in the potty they get to put a sticker on the chart.hope this helps.good luck!

Hi S. I hear that girls are better at the potty training thing. I have 2 boys... If she can tell you that she has to go to the potty and can stay dry all night that is a sign.As my Dr. has told me don't push them to potty train they will tell you when they are ready. You can try to sit her every hr on the potty and see if she will go. I hope this helps. email if you have any questions/

18 months is a little young to potty train. Some good signs of readiness are that she can follow simple directions, that she can pull her own pants down, and then back up. That she knows when she is wet, and then when she knows BEFORE she has to go. You also have to make sure that she WANTS to go. if you force her it will take longer. If you sit her on the potty every 30min. to an hour and she goes that is NOT potty training and can actually mess her up and cause accidents at a later age (like when you stop sitting her on the potty every so often).

Here is an article on it: http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/parenting_tips/potty_train...
I am sure there are a BUNCH of these out there.

you also have to make sure when you do start that all the caregivers do it the same way.

You may want to talk to your pediatrician about it.

My daughter was 2 years old when she potty trained and I did nothing. Honestly. When she started staying dry and showing interest in the potty I bought her a stool and then little seat to put over the big seat. then she went on the potty. If you wait til they are ready you dont have to do anything!!

18 months is a little young for full-on training, but I would buy a chair and sit it in the bathroom with you. Also, buy some books and maybe a video to spark interest. She'll start showing signs of telling you when she has gone 1st.
