My son is two almost three, he will use the potty (1 and 2) when he has nothing on,even get out of bed to pee. But once we put a pull up or even regular underwear on , he pee in it. We have a very hard time to use the potty while he has underwear/ pull up on, any suggestions?

What can I do next?

My suggestion is that you wait. He is showing that he is nowhere near ready to really potty train. A few young kids get this early, but the vast majority absolutely do not. The novelty of using it often wears off, and their bodies/brains just really aren't their yet.

If you want to leave him naked a lot of the time at home, fine. But I wouldn't put him in regular underwear if he keeps peeing. And don't be surprised if this takes another year!

You're going to get a ton of suggestions here, and I think people mostly just stumble on something that seems to work with their kid but doesn't work with their other kids or yours. I honestly think there's very little science to this because development is so individual. Kids walk, talk, eat solid foods, sleep all night, and use the potty pretty much on their own schedule and there's not a lot you can do to change that course.

He's still young so keep working with him. He'll get it. Kids do better in summer. They can go commando....lol.

That's my son, and while people will say that he isn't ready, and he may not be, you can still work on it. I find with my boys, they will never truly be ready because they like the convenience of the diaper and they don't have to stop what they are doing to go potty. My daughter was the same way. She was never "ready", but when we finally took the pull up away, she was trained. I do think girls underwear is a lot easier to get up and down. I think that is part of my son's problem. He has trouble getting the underwear up and down. What works for me is just taking him to the potty every 15-30 minutes, and most of the time he goes. We also practice pulling up and down his underwear. The Gerber training pants are easier for him to get up and down than the character underwear with the thick elastic waistband. I'm hoping the more we get him to go on the potty and the more he practices getting the underwear up and down, he'll eventually get it. Now my other son, will tell me he has to pee, but when he goes to the potty, nothing happens. The joys of training twins!

My son was just like that and I thought he would never potty train! He finally did right before age 4. He was told he could not start at his new preschool until he was potty trained and the week before school started he just potty trained himself. He did have night time accidents much longer than that...and the occasional day time accident. Those stopped about mid-Kindergarten.

switch to the old fashioned cloth training pants , we had tried using the pullups , only to have her wet those, so we switched to cloth training pants, and we watched elmos potty time video about a dozen times, we also put her favorite teddy bear in training pants..and asked her to help her teddy bear learn to use the potty..everything clicked..K. h.

This is perfectly normal. Now you need to teach him to go with pants on. Go back to taking him every so often, and be patient, he'll get it!
