If you try to force him to do it, he'll be less interested. You know how men/boys can be, it's got to be their idea! My youngest of 3 is in the transition now. His potty seat sits out where he can get to it any time. Sometimes he goes...sometimes not. When he does, me and his older brothers make the goofiest big deal you've ever seen. Unfortunately, I'm more done with buying and dealing with diapers, than he's done using them!

My son was 3.5 before he was peeing on the potty. It was another 2-3 months before he was pooping on the potty. Now at 5.5 y/o he still wears a pull up to bed. The ped. told me not to worry about it, boys catch on a little later and with the diapers being so good these days the kids don't catch on as quickly as to what makes them feel uncomfortable. The diapers absorb the pee so quickly they just can't put two and two together.
Don't force the issue, encourage the potty but don't force it. He'll get it when he's ready. I thought my son was ready at 2.5 y/o then he ended up not doing it. It will be ok. He's not behind!

My son just turned 3 and he still wears a pullup, we are just getting into underware now. He started using the big potty at daycare within the last month. My advice is to leave him alone. My son may be taking a little longer but we don't have fights over it and neither one of us is frustrated. He has pooped on the potty at times and isn't scared at all so I think that is a good thing.

He's only 2 1/2, he hasn't missed his window! Best advice ever given by my ped...
Let them do it on their own time! 2, is not the magical age. Most kids are actually closer to 3 or older. I used that with all 3 of mine. They were all potty trained by 3 1/2, and never had any accidents even at night.

Hello L.,

I wouldn't say your grandson has missed his window... my son didn't have any interest in the potty until he was almost 3. When HE was ready it only took him a matter of a few weeks to get the hang of it and he's done great since. Try not to push the potty training on your grandson so much... he'll come round when he's ready. I know all my other friends that have boys all said the same thing to me... that it would come to them on their own and its usually around 3 yrs of age. But it you insist on trying - try cheerios in the potty - make it a sinking game.

Good luck!
