Instead of him sitting on a potty chair have him stand in front of the toilet to pee. Just have him stand on your feet until he is tall enough to do it on his own. It is a lot easier than trying to find a potty chair with a cup. Or you could teach him to hold himself down into the potty chair when he pees.

For our son, we started potty training him sitting backwards on the toilet - with his legs spread apart to sit on the seat that way it made everything point down naturally so everything came out in the toilet. We also taught him to hold himself down to make the pee go in the toilet. We are also just starting to have him stand to pee and he is learning how to aim. I've heard that it is better not to use the seats with the "boy" shields because when they sit on the seats they could hurt themselves if the accidentally sit on the shield part.

Until he's old enough to clear the toilet by standing and aiming (cheerios make excellent targets!!!) sitting on a potty chair and holding himself in and down is best. He'll have to get accustomed to this when he sits to urinate and have a bowel movement, they don't stand and then sit... just have him sit for that entire performance. So learning how to keep things down will prepare him for life long habits and cleaner bathrooms for you!!!

We had the same problem! After going through many different potty seats and figuring out that the lack of a good splash guard was the problem, we found a great Sesame Street Elmo potty at Walmart. It has a large plastic guard that is removable for cleaning and is made out of firm, but not hard plastic. It works great on the potty and also on the big toilet with a footstool in front. When your boy gets older and taller, I am sure that standing would work, but for now, this potty may work for you! Good luck to you!

There is a good one at Toys R Us that has a pretty large deflector. It is called the Graco Training Rewards Soft Seat Potty & Step Stool. I bought this one for my son and it works great.
