I saw my OB today for the 6 week follow up and when she asked how things were going I just burst into tears. I totally didn't see that coming and after talking to her she suggested I try a perscription for a few months to help get me through. I have a toddler and my newborn is colicky and my husbands job is in jeopardy because of the economy so things are stressful but I don't know if drugs are the answer. I guess I had been holding it all in when I saw her today because the flood of tears felt so good to get out! My question is if you had PPD what drug did your OB put you? How long were you on it? Did it make a difference? If you decided NOT to take a drug how long did it take for you to feel like things were falling into place? Also, I'm breastfeeding so I'm concerned about the drugs passing thru my milk to the baby. Does any one have experience with that?

Thank you!

I went thru this with my 3rd baby. Turned out what I needed was sleep. Doctor gave me a sleeping pill. I only took about a quarter of a pill as I was afraid I would hear the baby lol. But it worked. A few nights of good sleep did amazing things for me. Mine also prescribed zoloft which I took only for a bout a week. it made me itch. everywehre lol so that didn't help at all. good luck

I didn't go on anything, but really should have. My Dr didn't talk to me about anything & I was in such a fog that I didn't ask for anything. I really really wish someone would have talked to me. I don't have any family & none of my friends really asked me how I was doing. My husband & I fought a lot & he was always at work. I was very depressed after all my kids & I had 3 kids in 3 yrs so I was a mess. Come to find out 3 of my good friends were on it & now I see how much it really helped them. My one friends youngest is 15 months & she is still on it & she doesn't want to get off of it. My other friend needs to go back on it cause she just had a baby Saturday, but she was on it while breastfeeding her other dghtr & it was perfectly fine. If you need help relieving all the chaos & tension please don't hesitate.....congrats & best wishes

I am so sorry you are having a rough time right now. You are going through a lot right now, and it's totally understandable why you are feeling this way. My mother in law had some ppd after my sister in law was born 20 years ago. Back then, the doctors didn't check for that sort of thing with every new mom like they do now. She was paranoid, and felt that people were trying to steal her baby from her, and actually got to the point where she was unable to sleep, for fear that someone would take her. Anyway, she waited a long time before she actually told her doctor about this, and was prescribed a medication (I'm not sure which one). She was also breastfeeding. She took the med. for 6 weeks and then was gradually weaned off of it. She felt way better and never had a problem after that. I would suggest that you go ahead and take it for a short while, then gradually wean off of it. Also, if you told your OB that you are breastfeeding, then she would have prescribed a med. that is not passed through your milk. So it will be safe for both of you. It sounds like you could use all the help you can get right now. Good luck, and if you need someone to talk to, please send me a message. :)
