Possible Miscarriage - Yarmouth Port,MA

I'm almost 6 weeks pregnant, and yesterday I started spotting and then bleeding bright red blood, pretty much like a period with cramping. I went to the midwife's office, and she did an exam and said there was a good chance it was a miscarriage and took some blood to check my hormone levels. Today, the bleeding has lessened and is really only just a bit of brown spotting. At no point did I ever start passing clots or tissue. The midwife called today to say my hormones were in the normal range, and she's sending me in for an ultrasound tomorrow to see what's going on.

So I guess I'll find out tomorrow, but I'm sitting here wondering/worrying, and I thought I'd ask if anybody had had this happen before and what happened.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We saw a heartbeat on the ultrasound and the embryo is measuring just as it should, which is good. However, there's quite a big area of blood in my uterus. So I have an increased chance of miscarriage, but everything is OK for now. I'm going to take it super easy for a while and try not to lift my toddler too much (if at all possible). And I've got another ultrasound for next week to check on the blood situation. Thanks so much to everybody for the kind words and prayers. It really did make me feel better.

I wish I could give you an answer to sooth your worry. I have had it go both ways in the past. I am going to pray for you and I hope tomorrow goes well. The last time I miscarried, I conceived twins shortly after. I remember thinking ~ Wow, God you took one and gave me two! It is a difficult thing to go through even when you are able to surrender.
God Bless M., and know that I am your prayer warrior during this time.

I had a time when I woke up in the middle of the night and went to the bathroom and had a gush of blood...at 18 weeks. I wasn't sure what would happen. I went to the emergency room and they checked me out. I wasn't cramping or anything...they told me to see the doc in the morning. I was hospitalized for 2 days and they couldn't find anything wrong...other than I was bleeding. My doctor put me on a modified bed rest for a while. I was scared.....but I was able to carry that pregnancy to full term with no other complications other than the unexplained bleeding early on. You are doing the right thing in getting things checked out. It could be nothing serious. Just take it easy and rest as much as you can. My prayers are with you and I hope things work out for you.

If your hormone levels are good there is a good chance everything is fine. When I miscarried my levels had dropped a lot, and that was the first sign for my doc, when they did the ultrasound there was no heartbeat.. My second pregnancy was fine, I had my son, and my third I spotted, and cramped and ended up carrying my beautiful 22 year old daughter full term. Try to relax and take it easy, I will pray for you!! Keep us posted.

I was about 6 weeks pregnant when I had a little spotting in the evening. The next morning, at work, I had a massive cramp and then a huge amount of blood. There was no question in my mind that it was a miscarriage.

I ran up to my fertility specialist and they took an ultrasound. The doctor told me "Well, someone is still in there." Sure enough, she showed me the dot that was my future son and the heartbeat. There were also signs that something else had been there - not a twin, but I think it might have been the failed remains of a start of a pregnancy from the previous month. That's just my thought - it was never confirmed. I'm not sure if that's what caused the bleeding.

She told me I was having a threatened miscarriage and I was sent home for the weekend on bedrest. After that, everything was fine.

Wishing you the best and hope that everything turns out fine for you too!

I was about that far along with I had it happen with my #4 son. I went in and they took some blood and said my hormone levels were ok and they did an ultrasound and he was still there :) But they did find a hole in the placenta. They said that's what was causing the blood and cramping. They told me I had a 50/50 chance of carrying the baby until I was 20 weeks along. Then if I made it to that point still carrying him I was at risk for an early delivery. At 12 weeks, I had another ultrasound to check on the baby and the placenta, baby was doing good and hole was still there.

Well at my 20 week ultrasound they found that the hole repaired its self. Needless to say I carried him to full term and have a very healthy wonderful 4 yr old :) Good luck tomorrow and hopefully there is some good news on your way!

I had this happen to me...mine was a miscarriage. At 6 weeks, with red blood like a period and with cramping. My hormone levels were low however. Don't worry about it until they tell you what's going on. I got confirmation from the doctor when it happened to me but I knew it was over for me at that time. If your hormone levels are still up there, you should be confident. That's a good thing. I won't tell you not to worry because no one can tell you how to feel. But don't give up hope until you really find out what's going on. I know 2 people that bled their whole pregnancies. It happens. Your baby will be fine!

M.,
Bleeding is so scary when you are pregnant. You should rest as much as possible. I hope everything is okay with your baby.
I have bled three times in my 8 pregnancies. The first one, I lost one of my twins, the other two ended in miscarriage. I know. Not encouraging. However, I know many women who have spotted and bled during pregnancy and went on to carry the baby to term, healthy and safe. Rest. Pray. Limit any unneccesary tasks.
Blessings!

I've had it go both ways. Usually, for me, it's a miscarriage... but it happened with my son as well. I'm prone to placental abruptions (bleeding can be from MANY causes), so for me, bleeding was very, very dicy. Other women though often bleed or spot during their pregnancies. Best wishes on your ultrasound!

After four miscarriages I had a similar threat before carrying my first full term and producing a healthy bouncing boy during a difficult but natural birth. I had spent five months praying positively for him to HANG ON and he did in the end, rather too firmly! LOL :-)

Another boy arrived eighteen months later never threatened to miscarry and an easier birth. Good luck!

Maybe this won't help but one of my daughters did this and went to the hospital and was shocked to find out she was having twins. They are healthy and turning 3 in a couple of months. Only your doctor can tell you what's happening with you but don't panic until you know for sure.

I had a former co-worker that would get a light period for her first 6 months of pregnancy with both of her kids.
Try not to stress wait until the ultrasound is done to find out for sure.

I had that happen with my second son and everything turned out fine. They said it could have been a vanishing twin or some sort of pocket of blood on my uterus? (don't remember exactly what they said, as it was 5 years ago). BUT, I've also had that happen two other times and those two times were chemical pregnancies/blighted ovums. I know the waiting is hard, but you will know soon! Hang in there!
