I'm working with a large group of volunteers to help voters (poor, students, minorites, and elderly) without photo IDs obtain them in time for the election. Where all should we be posting our posters offering this service? (free rides to ID facilities) I'm having trouble brainstorming locations where these target groups would best be reached. Any ideas?
@ Jo, yes, but our local chapter has just started addressing this and has asked for help.

BTW, THANK YOU for doing this.
"Voter ID, as you've heard from a number of people, raises a number of problems, in particular for groups of people who are less likely to have ID that would be recognized as a valid voter ID: the elderly, racial minorities, young people, people with disabilities,"
Sooooo....I'd reach out to nursing homes, senior centers, churches, therapy centers, hair salons, etc.
Good luck, A.....and THANK YOU for doing this...YOU ROCK!
Awesome idea, A.!
Everyone goes to the store, so I'd start there and if they don't have a notice board, get the staple gun out and hit the bus stops near the stores. Bus stops which are well-frequented, nursing homes, the library, and near the social services offices (perhaps they would let you post inside), as well as the aforementioned places other posters have mentioned.
Good on you for doing this.:)
Senior citizen communities, food banks, colleges, high schools(there were many of us of age to vote my senior year), pediatrician's offices, local welfare offices, bus stops/public transit centers.
Gas stations - ask if you can put up a flyer at gas stations.
Wonderful thing you're doing, A.!
Dawn
Bus stops, especially if there are bus stops at your supermarkets. Retirement homes, senior centers, check with your local meals on wheels organization, local hospitals, rehab centers.
I would go with the free clinics, social security office, county welfare agency, library, community college bulletin boards, supermarket bulletin boards.
bus stops
local DHS offices
medical clinics
Food pantries
Churches
all the local non-profits should be told about this service
public housing offices
low income apartment complexes
schools
Also, see if you can get your local TV and radio stations to put together a PSA for you - um, for free! - and run it
Good Luck
Great Idea !!!!
Community colleges, nursing homes, diners....
Good luck!
Free clinics, welfare office, YMCA/YWCA, unemployment office, walmart, post office, court house, and anywhere with a street pole you can staple something to! Good for you for making a difference!
Your other answers are great, and just wanted to say a big thanks.
I'd also check with your local Obama office. I would imagine the campaign also has a strategic plan to educate their voters and I'm SURE they would welcome someone like you. I'd suggest when you start making those calls, you talk about this as well.
A.:
Has the group created a 501c organization that has a TAX ID and can get financial help? And get recognized via your local media? Help with insurance on the vehicles so that if something happens when in transit - you can't personally be sued for it or be held personally responsible?
Ambulatory Nursing homes
Bus stops
Grocery Stores
Homeless shelters
Local Media - as people who are in places like Best Buy to beat the heat or the cold/rain - might hear it...
Have you checked to see if there is a group already doing that you can join?
CareerLinks, college student centers, senior centers, YMCA and community centers, food bank, bus shelters.
Grocery Stores, laundromats, post office if there's a message board
