Please Advise - Washing Machine Needs Repair

I posted this a few days ago, and haven't gotten any response. I hope someone can answer because I'm desperate to have my washing machine fixed! We have not been able to use it over a month already as we had hoped to fix it ourselves but obviously we have to get a service man to come. Here is my post from the other day

We have a Whirlpool Gold washing machine which we bought in August 2000 so it is not very old. My husband ran through self-test to test different code errors to see exactly what the problem is. It looks like the gearcase needs to be replace, and this is something my husband can't do it himself. It's located at the bottom of the machine, and it won't spin. It does drain, but does not spin so that means wringing out water out of clothes which is very time consuming. My husband talked to a friend yesterday and was told to check out how much it would cost first before doing the repairs since it might be better to get a new washing machine if the cost of repair is almost the same price as a new washing machine. Anyone have a good recommendation who we can contact for washing machine repairs?

Thanks in advance for your advice :-)

Hi L. -
I have an LG front loader that just recently had a very similar problem, although mine was only 2 years old, and no longer under warranty.

I used Miles Appliance Service, the guy was awesome, had it working in 15 minutes (although it took almost a week to get the part from LG) and it cost about $350 for repair - which is ALOT cheaper than buying a new one! He actually told me over the phone what the problem was, and a coupe of other companies wanted to charge an extra $100 to come out and look.

This happened to use recently and we were, thankfully, able to fix it. Turns out there was a SOCK stuck somewhere or other; I don't know the details, I'm just glad it was fixable!

I know you said your husband tried some things but here is a link to a site which helped us figure out was what going on.

I had a Maytag that did that and it wasn't very old either. But after calling the manufacturer to look at it we decided to just replace it. The repair was too expensive, like $400, to us it wasn't worth the money. So many places will do no payments and no interest on new appliances these days, so that's what we did. I bought an LG front loading and I LOVE it. If I can help anymore, just ask. Good Luck!

I usually use Freeman Appliance (google the name for web site), but their repairman is currently recovering from cancer surgery - that's why I did not respond. I believe they do have a good referral, though, so you can call and get the referral. I confess that I used the referral and he was just great but I did not keep his phone number as I planned to just use Freeman once he is well. good luck.
