A lot have replied that it could be allergies. It could also be a virus that just needs time to go away. If he continually rubs his eye, then I would try to get him in or take him to a clinic to have it checked. If it does not bother him too much, then Thursday really is not that far away. I have had a virus in one of my eyes many times and people at work would insist that it was pink eye. The worst part is waiting for it to go away, which takes about as long as pink eye does. I don;t get the goop but my eye is more sensitive at that time. No drops for a virus, just the bacterial conjunctivitis. BTW, my daughter has had pink eye where she did not get the goop. One time her eye swelled up almost shut and another time it was just really pink with a little bit of goop in the morning and that was it.

Sounds like allergies, or maybe he scratched his eye or got something in it that scratched the surface of his eye when he rubbed it. I would take him to the dr and have his eye looked at. If it was pink eye, the drops would have cleared it up really quickly.

Could be allergies, but it's odd that it's only in one eye. Pink eye (conjunctivitis) can be tough to get rid of if the child is rubbing the eye. He could also have gotten something in there (small piece of sand, for example), but the only way to tell if there's a scratch is to go to the ophthalmologist so they can see inside. Pink eye can have crusting, particularly in the morning, and sometimes the eyelids are stuck together. Sometimes it just has watery discharge, which the child may be wiping away. Use a warm compress a few times a day. But you still will need the antibiotics - I wonder if the ointment would be better, at least at night - it sticks in the eye pretty well.

My one eye was very red for a few weeks. My doc treated me for pink eye and the redness did not go away. Finally my eye doctor said it was allergies and I used eye drops for alleges and the redness went away.

Hi A.,

My guess would also be allergies....it can be in one eye just like you only have one nostril stopped up. Elderberry syrup is real good for allergies as it boosts the immune system so the body will fight it off on it's on. It also tastes good so kids love it. It's simply food so there is no fear of contraindication. My girls used to tell people it was what Mary Poppins gave Jane and Michael, lol. You can pick it up at any health store.

Even if it's not allergies the elderberry will help pretty much anything. My other suggestion is to make your home "anti-allergen" with a detox. If his body is not bombarded at home it will strengthen itself so he can fight off the "outside" stuff. When we detoxed our home, EVERYONE got better. My allergies are completely gone. If you're interested in what I did, let me know. I'll be glad to walk you through it.

God bless,
M.

In my personal experience, pink eye always has some sort of discharge. Sometimes it's just a greenish goop, sometimes it's just a watery eye. It almost always itches like the dickens too. If it's just red, he might have gotten something in it, itched his eye and irritated it. I might also be allergies. Usually the eye drops only take a few days to notice a difference as well. I would think that since you've been using them since Friday, it would be showing signs of improvement by now.
