V.,
I am a mother of one with another due in 7 weeks. I experienced this pink discharge with my current pregnancy. It could be a sign of miscarriage but it does not have to be. You need to call your obstetrician to let him know. He may want to do an ultrasound to take a look at how baby is doing. In the meantime take it a little easy if you can at least until it subsides. God Bless, and good luck to you. By the way try to stay calm because stress is not good for you or the baby.
I had light spotting during my second pregnancy also. I got real nervous because I had previously had a miscarriage. You can't totally rule out a miscarriage but I know with mine it was BRIGHT red blood. When I called the doctor about the spotting and researched it on the internet they referred to it as implantation spotting or something like that. I would call your doctor if you are worried or if it continues for more than a couple of days or if it gets bright or you have cramps. It is probably nothing but it is always better to be safe than sorry. Good luck with your pregnancy!
Could be that you are over doing it a little. Are you working? Walking up and down stairs alot? Lay on your left side and just try to relax a little more. But if it turns red or real dark, call your OB. Try not to get too stressed out. This is a wonderful time in your life, so try to enjoy it. Congrats and good luck, I'm sure everything will be fine. When I was between 10-12 weeks pregnant with our son, I started spotting and it got much heavier. So much so that if I had not confirmed I was pregnant with a home test and also already seen my OB/GYN, I would have thought I had a period (lighter than normal without a doubt, but it lasted for about 3-4 days). I was convinced that I was going to end up having a miscarriage and went to the dr. on day 5. I had cramping and felt terrible. They did an ultrasound and all was still very well. I later delivered a full term 8 lb. 10 oz. baby boy who was healthy as could be and always in the top 20 of his class throughout high school. It didn't affect him in any way at all! Hope all continues well with your baby!
I had various bouts of slight discharge throughout my pregnancy. I was told by the OB (and other moms) that you should really only be truly concerned if it is real bleeding...and LOTS of bleeding at that. My sister's OB told her that she should only call the OB if she had blood clots the size of golf balls...which was a visual I did not like!
If you are truly worried, call your OB just to check. They will possibly ask you to come in for an ultrasound just to make sure things are going okay, and possibly do an hCG test to test the hormone levels in your blood...although you might actually be too far along for that test to be accurate. At one point or another your hormone levels sort of level off and the increase doctors are looking for won't be as evident.
Keep in mind that your OB might jump to the wrong conclusion. I was told countless times that I had "probably miscarried", that I was "in the process of miscarrying"...and then they told me it was twins! It wasn't twins...but all in all, it was ridiculous how stressed the doctors made me during the first trimester. Needless to say, my son just had his first birthday and I didn't have any complications with bleeding or anything throughout my pregnancy. :)
Your best bet is to think about any other symptoms you have. Are you having morning sickness? Nausea? Vomiting? Tired? GOOD!!!! You still have those symtpoms, means you're still heating up that bun in your oven. :) :)
You are probably fine as long as it is spotting and you are not having any pain. I had a miscarriage before my first full term pregnancy, and it was very heavy bleeding and cramping (like bad period cramps).
I had spotting and cramping at 7 and 1/2 weeks with my second, went to the ER and everything in the blood work was fine, they did an ultrasound to rule out an ectopic pregnancy and we found out that it was twins which shocked both my husband and me. The ER Dr said cramping and spotting was fairly common in the 1st trimester, but heavier bleeding, or severe pain was cause for concern.
Call your OB if you have one, to ease your mind, they may want you to come in to check your hormone levels and possibly do an ultrasound. At this stage it will be a vaginal ultrasound, because they really can't see much with the normal belly U/S this early.
To ease your mind and to be safe, call your OB.
