the same place as the trope that rain on a wedding day is a positive sign. some things are just so clearly sucky that we strain REALLY hard to make hay out of it.

Mamas & Papas-
Have you heard anyone say that if you get graced with bird dropings, its a sure sign that its your lucky day? What's that all about? I wonder where this pearl of wisdom has its roots.
Thanks,
F. B.

Hi F.-
I can only share a true story about bird poo---
When I was in college, my parents were stationed in England...I found my self in london during the queens silver jubilee....(yes, I am in fact, older than dirt!)
Anyway, amid a crowd of thousands of people trying to catch a glimpse of the queen, a pigeon 'launched' and hit me on my head (yuck!!). Then I heard a voice over the crowd 'yelling' my name! Turns out it was a friend from HS who was on a whirlwind trip to europe!
I don't know if she spotted be as I was frantically looking for something to use to 'de poop'...but we had a lovely 'reunion' (I had not seen her in a few years as I had gone to college out of state).
Anyway, we had a great visit...and I will always consider bird poo on MY head as a good luck sign!
LOL
Best Luck!

no but i sure wouldn't call it lucky!!!
I could never understand that one either. I guess they say it so the person that was pooped on so they don't feel so bad. It surely isn't lucky, lol.
Suz is spot on!!! What else can you say when something crappy (lol) happens?!!
wow, then I should be lucky as all get out! off the top of my head (pun intended) I've had a bird poop on the top of my head while walking to a wedding chapel, a bird poop down my leg while at an outdoor concert for my birthday, a bird poop down the back of my head and hair (and I have BIG hair-think long haired hippie!) while eating dinner at an outside restaurant, a baby parrot poop all over my knee while at a parrot sanctuary, a bird poop all over my arm while attending a graduation after party, the list goes on and on....needless to say I have learned never to look up with my mouth open when a bird flies over!
I never heard of it until I watched Under the Tuscan Sun. It's in there too.
I come from a very superstitious family. I have heard all my life bird poo is good luck, not just pigeon. We were never allowed elephants in the house or to own anything green. Never things I understood why or even should question. It is just the way it is!
Bird Droppings
Many people the world over believe that if a bird lets loose on you, then good things are coming your way. One idea is that it's a sign of major wealth coming from heaven, based on the belief that when you suffer an inconvenience (albeit a pretty gross one), you'll have good fortune in return.
