Hi N.: I always had my picky eater take one bite - just one of anything that I served and now she finally likes most everything. I think any child will take at least one bite - or even one little taste of something and what it does is allow them to develop a taste for different foods. I always told her she didn' have to eat anymore if she didn't like it after that one bite.
My next door neighbor got her kids to eat by telling them that their favorite character (be it Little Bear or Dora, etc.) loves whatever you are serving that day and believe it or not, her boys would eat it all.
I think also with a picky eater you have to be a little creative and hide some nutritious foods in the foods that they likes. For example, if he will eat a hamburger, put some mashed up veggies inside. Another tip is top foods off with melted cheese - most kids love cheese. Ultimately kids survive and most will wind up enlarging their selection of foods in time. Best of luck to you.
