Hi N.: I always had my picky eater take one bite - just one of anything that I served and now she finally likes most everything. I think any child will take at least one bite - or even one little taste of something and what it does is allow them to develop a taste for different foods. I always told her she didn' have to eat anymore if she didn't like it after that one bite.
My next door neighbor got her kids to eat by telling them that their favorite character (be it Little Bear or Dora, etc.) loves whatever you are serving that day and believe it or not, her boys would eat it all.

I think also with a picky eater you have to be a little creative and hide some nutritious foods in the foods that they likes. For example, if he will eat a hamburger, put some mashed up veggies inside. Another tip is top foods off with melted cheese - most kids love cheese. Ultimately kids survive and most will wind up enlarging their selection of foods in time. Best of luck to you.

My son is 7 and is like this. His Pediatrician said that as long as we are introducing new foods and offering the things they need more of, then they will eventually bounce back. I'm hopeful :)

My second daughter was a picky eater. We switched to foods like tuna casserole and quesdillas with cheese and lots of toppings. Mostly we were vegetarians but the get her to eat I resorted to everything organic that was like what other people ate. By age four she had become a good eater. But, she still came to the table and said things like " You expect me to eat that?"

when my daughter was 3 all she would eat was mac and cheese (the frozen kind) or chicken nuggets. she still ate fruits and veggies. but i got tired of her only eating that. so i stopped buying it all together! i explained to her that she is going to start eating what mommy eats for dinner. it took her about a week before she would not fight. that includes 3 days going to bed hungry. she is aloud to pick her breakfast and lunch but dinner is whatever i fix.

Check out the cookbook called "Deceptively Delicious" by Jessica Seinfeld.

http://www.amazon.com/Deceptively-Delicious-Simple-Secret...

It teaches you how to hide fruits and veggies into foods that are already loved by children.
