My almost 4 year old has her finger in her nose constantly and then yes it goes straight to her mouth. Not only being yucky she is continuously putting herself at risks for more colds and illnesses. How do I correct this behavior?

What can I do next?

My son is almost 4 and does the same thing. Except he doesnt put it in his mouth. I try telling him thats gross and that we should go blow our nose if its itchy or got snot in ith. Usually that works. If I not I just move his hand away and say yucky. I think every kid goes through the stage. Good luck...

My son is 4 and recently we had the same problem. I bought some saline nose spray for kids and every time he picked his nose I would use the saline on him. He didn't like it at all and so he'd try really hard not to pick his nose. Also the saline spray moisturized things up there for him and made him not feel like he needed to dig around! Now I very rarely see him with his finger up his nose.

my little girl did it and she's 2 1/2 and learned it at daycare. i would move her hand and tell her that's gross and nasty and little girls shouldnt do that! and if she was watching barney i would tell her i was going to turn him off. it is gross and they should know not to do that. she didnt do it very long. good luck

You might try and dip her fingers in vinegar, or lemon juice so when she puts her finger in her mouth she will not like the taste.

Ignore it - she'll grow out of it.

Hey

My 5 yr old daughter does it as well. I think she does do it more when I or her grandparents make a big deal about it. I've noticed her doing it less now if I don't say anything. She is rarely sick, so I don't think it makes any difference. I think all kids to it at some point. I mean, can you not remember doing it when you were a kid? I can remember doing it. I don't remember doing it alot and I don't remember my parents telling me to stop.
My 2 yr old is beginning to do it, but I think she is watching her older sister.
Hope this helps.

Gross as it is, I would try to ignore it. Drawing attention
to it will probably make her do it more. I saw on the news a couple of years ago, some study was done that show booger eaters have less illnesses and allergies. My 4 year old is a booger eater too. She doesn't do it alot that I see but I still tell her it's gross and ask if she needs a snack. Hopefully they will stop before becoming social outcasts. Good Luck!
