My little guy is picking away these days too. I have used the nasal spray and gel and it works like a charm. It is just so dry here and the little noses can't handle it!
I'm not sure if there is anything I can or should do about this, but I have started getting comments. Is there a way to get him to stop or at least do it in private?
Thanks for your help!

Toddlers pick their noses...I see it all the time at my daughter's preschool. (Just be glad he doesn't eat them--this is also common at this age, yuck!) For her, we just always have tissues handy and give her one if we see her going for her nose. After repitition it becomes habit and now 90% of the time she asks for a tissue on her own when she has "boogies" in her nose.
Hi, my kids used to pick their noses, too. I found that in the winter when it gets really dry, the boogies would get hard and crusty and itchy, thus making the kids try to get them out. I bought each of them their own little saline spray bottle, wrote their names on them (so no germs get exchanged) and let them carry those around. The insides of their nostrils stay moist and they don't feel the need to dig around in them. Other than that, it is true that kids pick their noses a lot. Sometimes, you just have to let them outgrow the gross stuff...Good luck!
My advice will sound very strange, but it might work! Try to do that yourself and pretend that you cannot get your finger out of your nose and that's very painful or even ask him to help you get it out. He might understand that could happen to him too and nobody will be around to help him get his finger out!! I have put a humidifier in my son's room (he is 2) and he kept willing to touch it, I touched it myself and pretented that was very very very hot and I was almost in tears. The next time I had to move the humidifier I used a towel, just to show him that's the way to do it. He didn't touch since then! Good lick and let meknow if that worked!
my three year old picks his nose occassionally, but always runs to get a kleenex to wipe it in...when he's done i tell him he either needs to go wash his hands or he needs to go put "germ stuff" (purrell or germ x) on his hands...hell i'm 30 and i still pull boogage out of my nose and wipe it in a kleenex...i'd rather have cleared nasal passages...icky boogage sitting up there doesn't sound appealing..just seems more important than worrying about ppl think about you...i'm not big on what ppl think about me...don't worry i confine my booger play for when i'm at home *LOL*...but yeah you probably want to use some saline nasal spray thingies..we have those too...and invest in a good sized humidifier for your home...good luck!
oh i didn't really give advise..sorry about that, ha ha...maybe explain to him that it's something that needs to be done only at home...that it's not bad, but it bothers people around him...make sure he understands that clean hands are healthy hands (where the heck did that come from?) and if his hands aren't clean, then he needs to avoid touching his hands to his face so he doesn't get sick...that's about all i got..i didn't learn my lesson from last night of not posting while my sleeping pill is kicking in..sorry :P
My three year old picks his nose and sometimes eats it. Although I do ask him to stop and if he needs a tissue it is an endless battle. I understand how you feel because some times especially in public people get really upset and comment on how disgusting it is. All in all you will just have to do your best to keep those fingers busy. Wish there was more to say but I really hope this atleast lets you know you are not alone.
My 2 year old thumbsucker actually picks her nose as she sucks her thumb. She then proceeds to wipe the "boogies" on her nose and cheek. She is also a "switch hitter" so she gets on on both cheeks. Her cheeks are chapped and what is worse is I have to chase her to wash her face. Her preschool teacher suggests to put tissue in her pocket and with the face washing have her stand in front of a mirror and wash her own face. The face washing part is working but the tissue thing isnt. So I will continue to read your request to get suggestions for me too....
Probably not! My son is 4 and does the same thing. He's done it for a long time. Every time I see him do it, I tell him to take his finger out or ask him if he needs a tissue. This cuts it short but I gave up long ago trying to stop him...it seemed like I battle I couldn't win. Good luck!
I just made up a story (aided with a ton of emotion) about how there was a booger monster that lives in his nose and will bite his finger if he goes digging it deep. =) He never picked again!
