I was six months pregnant when I was laid off from a company I was working for, for almost three years. Reason they gave me was "economy crisis" my services were no longer needed. After I was laid off the company hired about five new employees. Anywho, with having a good work record with them and the company having a history of "letting go" woman who are pregnant or on maternity leave i filed a complaint with EEOC. A week ago I received a letter from EEOC telling me I have the right to sue the company for discrimination. Now, this happened in Arizona. I am looking for an attorney who can help me and take my case. Moms, do any of you know of anyone in Az that is good for the job? Maybe heard or worked with? Please please let me know. I've researched so much but now i don't know where to start or what to do. its very overwhelming and if i don't sue on my own EEOC will settle for me and they are three weeks away from finishing my investigation (settling for me) thank you!!!

What can I do next?

Look in the yellow pages of the phone book under Attorney-Labor. Make an appointment and go for an interview. There is frequently no charge for the first interview. Discuss your situation with him. If you don't think he's the right attorney for you, make an appointment with a different one.

If where you worked has a union, call the union office for advice on an attorney. If there is no union then perhaps you could call any union and ask them who handles their labor disputes.

Google Arizona's Bar Association and they should be able to refer you to a lawyer.

Krys, please do not get pre-paid legal. I had a family member selling this and multiple family members bought it. It was like $50/month and whenever you retained an attorney from it, you still had to pay the attorney their fee. The family members that used this service were very upset with the family member selling it! Contact your state's bar association to find an attorney that specializes in your kind of situation! Good luck!
