Has anyone ever used it? A friend of mine was on it for awhile and raved about it, but I wanted more than one opinion before asking my doctor about it. Pros and cons, I'd prefer to make an informed choice about whether or not to seek trying it. Thanks in advance!

I have been on it and just recently went off because my body had built up an tolerence. I lost 10 lbs the first month and then settled into about 5 lbs a month. I ate well, just not as much. I have lost a total of 30 lbs. I will stay off of it about a month and then start again to loose the remainder 20 lbs. I really like it and have not gained any weight while not being on it.

I am on it currently and it definitely works. I have had no ill effects from it. You are required to see your doctor monthly so he can monitor your weight loss and your blood pressure (it can increase your bp). I have 7 pounds to go!

Good luck.

Yes, I have used!!! I had great results!!! There is always risks, but if your doctor is willing to monator your goals and your health, go for it! It really does take away your appetite, just eat a healthy regimen, and it takes the cravings away!!!!!! It really helped me emotionally too, with the dreaded blues, all the feelings with being over weight. It has a great pick me up to it! It is a great tool to get back your health, plus when you start seeing results it is such a great feeling finally to get a goal met, that you can do it, just with some added help! Being over weight can be such a drag, depression, and baggage. Plus if you have a friend who has used it and is encouraging, that is even more encouragement for you!
Talk with your doctor, there is no shame in asking for help!
Some doctors don't prescribe it because of the risks that it could have, but find one that does and who has knowledge of the benefits and risks. Womens $ family Care, shawnee was great to work with.

I have taken phentermine for 3 weeks now. It has reduced my cravings, but I noticed they are back again so I assume I am getting "used" to the drug. I have lost 3 lbs, but with my schedule and new baby I am unable to work out. With all the extra energy I get from the Phen, I could easily do it, and I know that would really increase the results. As my doctor said, it isn't a wonder pill, if you keep putting junk in your mouth you will gain weight. I have known several people who have used it successfully, which is why I decided to try it. My doctor will only give me a month script at a time so I have to get checked every 30 days. I will suggest cutting the pill in half for the first few weeks otherwise it has a tendency to keep you up at night for the first few nights. Good luck!!

Hi Jenn. I used phentermine for about four months, several years ago. It revs you up. I swore to my doctor that if I lost weight, I would never gain it back. Well, I lost about twenty pounds, most of it in the first month. Six months later it was all back again. Toward the end of the time I was forgetting things and locking my keys in the car. I don't think it's good for your brain long term. I don't recommend it. Healthy eating and lots of exercise instead. Best of luck to you.

As a nurse, I can tell you this drug can help with weight loss. However, it usually comes back on after you stop the meds and this med (also called adipex) is hard on your heart and can have other side effects, including sleep problems. You have to go to a doctor who puts you on a plan that includes how you should eat, how to increase your water intake, how to taper off the meds, an exercise program, etc if you are going to take this med. Also you have to be seen monthly and lose 4-5 lbs per month, not more and not less to determine if you should continue the plan. These doctors are out there, I worked for one. He worked with each patient and some people did very well, others did not. He would not keep them on the med if he had any concerns at their monthly visit. In the end, you may do better just to find a way to do some kind of exercise each day, decrease your portions and cut back on the goodies without totally depriving your self....GOOD LUCK!!! Aim for good health and not a model figure! They're too skinny anyway!!!

I suggest you stay away from it. A diet doctor is working with a friend's son and admitted to my friend at the appointment that those that follow his plan - similar to others that have been mentioned to you - gain their weight back 99% of the time. Phentermine is the drup her son is taking. You can exercise, cut portions and do this without a drug - I know you can!!! by the way - find an exercise buddy - it'll keep you accountable.

I was on Phentermine for a couple of months last year and absolutely loved it. I was able to drop the pounds I was working towards. It gave me energy and motivation. I had to eat while taking it though. It did make me hungry, but the great thing was that a cup of yogurt filled me up while I was on it. I am a benge eater and it helped me control the portions and how often I was eating. I was able to drop 20 pounds while taking it. Unfortunately once I hit my ideal weight my doctor wouldn't let me have anymore. I will advise though, my doctor did inform me that this drug is really just a government controlled amount of Meth.

I LOVE phentermine. Visit the www.phentermine.com forum to learn more about this medication. I have lost 22 pounds in 6 weeks. It curbs your cravings and you rarely feel hungry. It is not a magic pill, you still must watch what you eat and excercise. Yes, there are risks and mild side effects but there are risks to being overweight as well. Gastric bypass, diabetes, increased cancer...all of these conditions carry considerable risk as well. By all means, if you can lose the weight on your own, go for it. If you have tried and have not succeeded, find a doctor who will prescribe this for you. Not every Dr. will. It is against the malpractice insurance agreements of some dr's due to the Phen Phen problems years ago. That drug was taken off the market because the combination of those two drugs caused damage. Phentermine was never taken off the market by the FDA because it was not shown to be unsafe.

Phentermine is wonderful for the right people. Before I took Phentermine for 3 months I was stuck in a cycle of being so exhausted I could not sit down for even 5 minutes without dozing off. So I had to stay on my feet every single minute any child was awake in my home. This meant I was only sleeping 5-6 hours per night and was on my feet the other 18 hours approx. hours per day. I was gaining weight because I would eat to just keep myself awake during any times I could sit like nap time or even when I was just sitting with the kids. I was always munching.

Phentermine changed all that. I would get this huge energy boost during the morning hours and run around and clean my house in HALF the time. But yes, I felt jittery and talked almost non-stop and it was a strange feeling. BUT, then when nap time rolled around I was awake enough that if I wanted to sit and read for a bit I didn't fall asleep. By the end of the day I would be tired enough from all the crazy energy that I'd sleep well.

The down-side... You will have dry mouth nearly every minute of the day. Without even realizing it most of the time you will have your jaw locked tight and your face will hurt by the end of the day. You will be very tense and little things will frustrate you. If you are alone with children without any other help, I don't know that I'd want to do it again. I did it for 3 months. It allowed me to not think about food at all the first few weeks. After that it only took the edge off the cravings. The side effects were so bad I skipped days a lot. I still have a script I haven't filled out so I only used 2 bottles in 3 months. That tells you how much I didn't take it.

My doctor has been thrilled. I lost 25 pounds in the first month and because I was sick we put off the 3rd weigh in for a couple more weeks. I'm not really losing now and can't seem to bring myself to get anymore. I'm not gaining either and I am not tired anymore like I was. I don't fall asleep at the drop of the hat.

Ok, Jenn , this is totally wierd. I was at my doctor office YESTERDAY at 3pm, asking about this Phentermine. He said there would be no way in hell he'd write a script for that...its way too unsafe, and he went on to explain about speed..OMG...
It's important that I tell you my dad is a internist at Barnes hosp.He is well respected, has been there since '75, and is well liked. Of course my dad knows my doctor personally, and they bth are trusted and know their stuff.
And then I'll tell you I dont have a lot of weight to loose, maybe 25 lbs.
So after running some blood work and checking heartrate and blood pressure, I walked out w/ a script for Prosac.
Yep...Prosac. And I'm NOT depressed! Apparently it isnt just used for improving your mood, but for appetite suppression as well.
So my advice to you is talk to a doc worth his salt...maybe choose a 'Top Doc' in the area. For me, the side effects of the phen are just not worth it...

Yes, I have tried that drug - what it did to me was make me jittery and by the end of the day extremely moody. I did not lose any weight on it and it did not give me extra energy at all. As a matter of fact, it slowed my heartbeat for some reason - but I still had the jitters.

Hope that helps :)

FDA has just approved Phentermine with a antiseizure medication. Phentermine works, and they keep adding other medication to it. It has been around for decades. I am hoping I can get Phentermine alone, I was on the orginial study of Phen Phen. It seems the medications they pare with, are the ones that cause complications. I worked in a university teaching hospital. I have definitely different opinions now on why doctors won't write medications and will write a more dangerous one to use. Good luck even trying to get Phentermine, until July
