I have been battling with my weight my whole life, I am currently not as heavy as I use to be, but I am still overweight. I am considering the injections and pills that supress your hunger(they are offered by an MD). I love to work out, but because of emotional over eating I can't seem to lose the weight. I am curious if anyone has tried the injections or pills to know what the result was, or if anyone had bad occcurences with either.

What can I do next?

Hi L.,

I have had B12 injections before. They did not really work for me. I did lose about 5 lbs. with the injection but my hunger did not go away and it was not realy worth the cost. I have also tried phentermine (I think that's what it's called). This worked pretty well, I didn't lose a ton of weight, but my husband also took it and he lost 20-30 lbs. The only problem with this pill is that it makes you very jittery, and can cause constipation.

Hope this helps.

I have never taken B12 injections but have been offered to have them for anemia. I was told that it only lasts a couple of weeks. So I am not sure if it's a long-term solution. Have you ever tried Weight Watchers? I swear by it. Good luck.

I would check Mayo Clinic online with a question like this. I rely heavily on their very informative website. They say there's no indication that b12 helps. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vitamin-b12-injections/A...

For what it's worth, my mother lost 30 pounds in the past 12 months following the oldest diet formula in the book: whole grains, fresh vegetables, roasted meats. (And oddly, the whole family has adjusted.)

I've tried the injections with the phentermine and it really works. The problem that I encountered is as soon as I get off the pills, I go back to eating like my "old self" and I gain the weight back and then some. I do know a couple of people who were sucessful. The pills suppress your hunger, so once your off the pills, your STARVING...well at least I was...so the key is to eat the exact same way as you did while taking the pills to keep the weight off. Good luck.

Haven't used those but...consider going to a doctor and having a thorough check-up. There may be more going on than you know. For instance, hypothyroidism can cause weight gain AND make you lethargic. They can determine whether you have it just by a simple blood test. With medication you can feel better and maybe drop weight.
That aside...dear, you ARE WHAT YOU ARE! Learn to be comfortable inside your skin no matter what it looks like. You may not ever be able to look the way you want but if you work on the person inside you will BE the person you want! Be a good mom, good daughter, good person, love God and don't be ashamed of the gift you have been given...yourself. =)

I just went off of the phentermine/B-12 injections and I lost 35 lbs in 3.5 months. I got the B-12 injections once per month from Dr. Mini Thakkar in Barrington. I have been off of the pills now for about a month and have gained 3 lbs. back, but I am not starving. I just slacked more than I should have over the Holiday weekend last weekend. The phentermine pills definitely help to curb your appetite. The B-12 shots were supposed to increase your energy, but I found I was more tired after my monthly shot- for about a week. The key to this combo for weight loss is the exercising- the pills do not make you loose weight. You need to make exercise part of your everyday life, and you need to change your eating habits. I found it easy to do while on the pills, and now I am determined to maintain this new eating/exercising lifestyle. It is a pricey endeavor, but it worked great for me. The phentermine started giving me side effects, so I went off of it. I only had 5 more lbs. to loose. I had the common side effects the first week, but then they went away. Then, around 3.5 months, I started loosing a ton of hair, and was really irritable and cranky. So, I stopped- much to my doctor's dismay. Read the forums on phentermine.com for more info.- just remember that different people react differently to the stuff. Good luck!

My mother uses the B12 injections because she has a disorder where she cannot absorb B vitamins through pills. It is usually hereditary and Dr's can test you for it with a simple blood test. She has had a vast improvement in energy since taking them. She was not on any weightloss program, however, and it did not seem to affect her weight to take only the shots. If I'm not mistaken, she would get them either every 2 weeks or once a month.
The only side effect she ever noticed was that her shoulders (at injection site) would sometimes become noticeably sore- sometimes to the point that she would have problems lifting her arms- and she would have to discontinue the shots for awhile while the soreness went away.

Hope this helps some!

Amanda

I tried the b12 shots together with taking the pills that are prescribed and I can say it really works if you are consistent with talking the pills and going every month to get the shot. The first time I started taking the pills I lost 15 pounds in a week and a half and kept it off but then I stopped using the pills every day and used them every so often. It is very expensive going every month to get the shot and pills. The pills also help with giving you an energy boost, but the pills can be addictive to some people. Good luck on what you decided to do. I went to Dr.Olivera, his website is http://www.olivera.com/our_program.html
