I stopped nursing last Thursday and my period returned Sunday. However, with my daughter it took a month before it returned.
Ok, so I had to stop nursing at about 2 months because some medication I absolutely must take was causing my baby serious GI discomfort. I'm now 4 months pp and still haven't had a period. The chances of pregnancy are so amazingly low I can rule that one out (well unless we are going to start talking immaculate conception ;-)--welcome to two children with serious health issues......).For those of you who didn't nurse, or were forced to stop early, when did your period return? I'm not looking forward to it, but I feel like I have had pms for weeks and it's getting old!!!

I would suggest you read the book the Art of Natural Family Planning. It has the most complete information on fertility and the return of fertility that is out there.
Every woman is different on return of fertility. If you know what you are looking @ you will know when it returns for sure. I have always nursed long term, but it has always returned about 2 months from the time my children really took to solids whether I was nursing 1 or 2 children at the time, when the youngest took to solids at all I got my fertility with in exactly 2 months.
I'm not sure anyone can answer this for you. I supplemented both times with all of my children and didn't get my period until about two months after I'd weaned completely. However, a friend of mine had ample milk, breast fed two children (different ages) and still had her period before the baby was 6 months AND got pregnant by this time, too! With my first son I was sure that I was getting my period on and off for about three months and then it finally came four months after I first got twinges of cramps. With my twins, I was only breastfeeding at night after three months and I still didn't get my period or any signs of it until two months after weaning completely. Friends of mine report different stories for everything. I only breastfed until 7 months for all of my boys, so maybe the story would have been different after that. Sorry I can't be of more help.
I nursed till my son was one year. Got my period maybe 3 or 4 months after the final nursing was finished. I know what you're saying "not looking forward to it...." but it should come soon. Hang in there with the annoying pms.
I nursed until my son was about a year old and it took me almost 6 months to get back to normal and for my period to start, was kinda excited for that but when I did get it back OMG it hit full force and I have always had light periods...it will come if you are to concerned I would talk to your doctor he/she might have a better answer for you.
I didnt get my period for a couple months after I stopped nursing, and that was when I had my IUD put in. I think having that placed was the only reason I even started. It just depends on your body. My friend has a almost 6 month old baby, she stopped nursing 2 months ago and still hasnt has hers either. Just be patient, it will come.
Hopefully your doc has some good advice for you. My thought upon reading your post was STRESS. That stops periods and it looks like you have got plenty of it. Be kind to yourself. Ask for help. We all need eachother.
