Pediatrician in NYC

Hi,
I'm looking for a pediatrician in Manhattan. My son was born prematurely a few weeks ago and is still in the NICU at NY Pres. Preferably, I'd like a doctor who is affiliated with NY Pres or NYU. If he/she has neonatal experience that would be a plus. I'm restricted by my insurance, CIGNA HMO in-network only, but would greatly appreciate any suggestions! Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Dear S.,

I have an amazing pediatrician--Dr. Sol Zimmerman. He is the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at NYU and is phenomenal. He is also head of the group Pediatric Associates, 317 E. 34th. St, 3rd. Fl.; ###-###-####.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about his patience and compassion, let alone his expertise!

His associates are also quite wonderful and the practice is open 7 days a week!!!!

Good luck!

A.

Our pediatrician is Dr. Gidfar. She is truly a spectacular doctor but is affiliated with Beth Israel, not NYU. Her office (at Union Square) is usually a madhouse but she never makes us feel rushed and takes as much time with us as we need. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

I realize that you are looking for a pediatrician with specific affiliations and insurance memberships. I don't think our pediatrician meets your requirements, but we love him and would recommend him to anyone. He is in partnership with another pediatrician who does the rounds at Lenox Hill. They are Gotham Pediatrics, 12th Street between 5th and 6th Aves. Dr. Gonzales and Dr. Felix are both excellent. ###-###-####. Best of luck to you. - H.

Congratulations on your new baby! My old pediatrician's name is Dr. Roger S. Challop. He's affiliated with Columbia Presbyterian, and his office is not far from the hospital. He is an older doctor, and is great with the children. I miss him, but we had to leave because he didn't accept our new insurance. You can check to see if he is a provider under your plan. If he is, call and ask about his experience with neonatal babies. When he's in the hospital, and he knows his patient is there, he'll stop by and check on them for you. Good luck.

Congratulations!!! We use Pediatric and Adol. Medicine on West End and 78th Street. They have a website pedsny.com I know they are affiliated with NYU because my son was admitted there when he was 5 weeks old with a freak virus. We use Dr Levi, but have seen all of the doctors and they are incredible. Friends of our use them and they had twin preemies in the NICU for 6 weeks.
Phone number is ###-###-#### I am pretty sure they take Cigna

Good Luck!! And Congrats again

Hey S. ~

We had premie twins born at NYU in November. They weren't admitted to NICU bc they were considered ok size for twins (4lbs and 5lbs) and their lungs were mature. We go to Pediatric Associates of NY on 34th Street bt 1st and 2nd avenues. All their doctors are affiliated with NYU Hospital and we've been pleased with them so far.

We see Debra Greenstein and she has been great with the twins, very calm, patient and reassuring - but definitely what I call a "classically trained" doctor - more traditional than holistic, etc. Also, she and the practice is pro-vaccines if that matters to you. (Another note - some of the doctors practice at the Brooklyn location on some days and are not always in the manhattan office m-f.)

They have a 24-hr call line and a nurse or doctor will call you back pretty quickly. The office is a bit of a factory, but we have never had to wait more than a few minutes in the waiting room.

Hope this helps and congrats on your baby boy!

Tracey

Hi,
Congratulations on the birth of your son! a new baby is so exciting!
We take our son to Manhattan Pediatrics. they're located on 60th and Madison. I'm not sure which insurances they accept but its a large practice. they are affiliated with NYU and Cornell possibly others as well. We see Dr. Caren Goodman and have been pretty happy with her as our doctor. I hope your son is home soon.
Good luck,

A.

Try Pediatric Associates. They are a well established practice associated with NYU. They have many good doctors and it is likely that one of them would specialize in neonatal care.
Congratulations on your baby. L.
