Pediatrician and Speech Therapist in Aurora (Eastern) That Take Tricare

We have just relocated to the Eastern part of Aurora and I need to find a Pediatrician and Speech Therapist for my 23 month old. My son hasn't started to talk yet and our old pediatrician had recommended speech therapy right before we moved. My husband works at Buckley AFB so if there is somewhere close to there that would be helpful.

What can I do next?

Hi L. - I would encourage you to go through ChildFind for speech therapy. It is state dept. of education program that is absolutely FREE to you and there are no income restrictions. The evaluation and the weekly sessions are free to you.

Above is a link to a Colo. Dept of Education site that lists information about Child Find and the second one is a directory of all the Colorado offices - choose the one that is in your school district. They help identify kids between 18mos and 6 who may have speech or other developmental problems. You can have your son evaluated by a certified speech therapist and behavioral therapist at no cost to you.

They have 2 programs - one for kids between 18mos and 2years and 3-6yrs. The younger kids receive speech therapy in a home setting, the older kids are in a small group/play group setting. My niece is 4 and she attends a play group setting and has a lot of fun. A friend here in Parker just called Child Find because her 4.5 year old daughter is still having trouble with L's and R's. She wishes she had called sooner but didn't know about the program until I mentioned what was happening with my son.

I had my son evaluated just before his 2nd birthday. It has been 6 months and he has progressed well and looks forward to meeting with our speech therapist every week. We also have an "advocate" through Developmental Pathways that we can call on in case we have questions or concerns or if we need help with additional services.

Great program!

edit: Developmental pathways also coordinated a free hearing test for my son as well. We actually had the test performed twice.

We are with Advance Pediatrics Associates and are very happy with them. We usually go to their Parker location but they have 2 locations in the Aurora area. They have great resources and are associated with Children’s Hospital, so they should be able to give you information about quality Speech Therapists as well. Here is their web address http://www.advancedpediatricassociates.com/

Good luck!

Hi

my middle guy has speech services. This is the route we took, although I think you can go direct to DP.
We went through the Buckley clinic and got a referral for speech services. Developmental Pathways (DP) then come and do an assessment and assign you a SLP. Tricare doesn't always pay for SLP services but DP will. We just wrote an IEP and are transitioning services so the therapist we use maybe available soon:) Send me a message if you'd like more information.
