I am looking for a good Pediatrician in the West Plano S. Frisco or Carrollton area. My daughter is nine and I believe she may have ADHD. We are now in this area and my pediatrician is in Denton. Would LOVE some good recommendations.

I have thought about taking her to an ADHD clinic but would like to get a diagnosis prior to make sure they are not just trying to get our business by diagnosing her.

Thanks to anyone that can help

My kids go to Dr. Julie Hodge in Lewisville, right outside of Carrollton. She is in the Target Shopping Center, right off I35 and is very good.

We absolutely love our pediatriction, Dr. Rhonda Merchant, at Legacy Pediatrics, which is located on Legacy drive between Ohio and Coit. She has an associate, Dr. Suresha Mutyala, that we also like. There is no turnover in the staff. We've followed her through three locations (until they built their own) and so did her staff. I never feel rushed. They remember the kids and their activities. Last week we were there with my son who had a severe reaction to poison ivy. Dr. Merchant called me that evening around 8:00 to check on him. My kids love to go see her. I really cannot say enough nice things about her and the practice. They are always helpful, return calls, etc. My oldest is 14 and my youngest is 7 and we've been seeing her for 8 years.

If you think she has ADHD, you really need a pediatric psychiatrist and/or a complete psycho-educational evaluation to help you figure out exactly what is going on. A pediatrician can point you in the right direction if you aren't sure how to find those things, but many pediatricians are not able to deal with the complexity and subtleties of learning issues. That's ok, they do a good job dealing with lots of other things. You just have to keep in mind what each one's area of expertise is. Try to find one who doesn't just prescribe meds first and ask questions later. My ADHD son does QEEG-guided neurotherapy which is reducing his symptoms slowly but steadily. The QEEG is also called a "brain map" and can help you figure out if it's really ADHD or something else, or a combination of things (which is most common). Remember, doctors can give you advice, but this is YOUR child. Don't let anyone push you into any kind of diagnosis or treatment you don't fully support. Keep reading and asking questions. Beware of "magic bullets." Nothing works overnight, and nothing is easy, but real progress is possible when you and your daughter both work hard at it.

Good luck,
S.

Both of my daughters see Dr. Danny Kim. His office is located on the 3rd floor of Presbyterian Hospital of Plano off of the tollway and Midway. He is a very nice man. If his is not taking new patients see if the other 2 doctors in his office are taking patients. They all have the same phone number which is ###-###-####, if you look him up on the web put in Windhaven Pediatrics of Plano and it will pull up the website for them.

A good pediatrician will not just dx your child with ADHD. They will send out forms to each one of your daughter's teachers and have them fill out a rating scale. When they get those back they will evaluate what you are seeing at home with what they are seeing at school.

We went through this with my daughter. However, when we talked to teacher, she said she was just like the other kids. When the school did the Conner's Rating Scale, that same teacher's rating showed that she was very high in the characteristics of ADHD. Our doctor sent us to a psychiatrist in West Plano and her name is Dr. Trese. She is good. However, we now go Children's Medical Center in Dallas because they are on our insurance. They are also a teaching hospital and are supposed to be one of the top in the nation for mood disorders which often run comorbid with ADHD.

We use Dr. Richard Nail of Centennial Pediatrics located at Independence and 121 in Frisco. He is wonderful, and I cannot imagine that he would ever point you in the wrong direction. Best of luck.
