Hello Moms,
My husband and I will be attending an out of town wedding and our sitter will be with us overnight with a total of appx 24 hours. (Around noon on sat to noon on sun) Now, I am in a different situation with our sitter, as she is a college student and over her break we let her stay at our house so she could work instead of going home... so she tells us all the time that she will sit for our son free of charge to work off that month she spent living here. (also, she is very close in age to my husband and I.. we are 26 she is 21) Anyway... I am wondering how much you would pay a sitter who usually makes 10usd an hour, for an overnight. She will be sleeping for at least 6 I estimate, though probably more, but the fact that she will be his 24 hour caregiver also deserves a thought. Help! Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I would ask her "so what do you charge for overnights?" she will come back with nothing I owe you. then you can say no way do I expect you to do it for free how about $50 and you will both be happy. good luck and enjoy the wedding

I would give her $100 for an overnight position. Thats what I make per 24hrs for 1-2 children.

It depends on how long the assignment and how many kids. I have 2 children staying with me at my home for 5 days while the parents go to Rome. I'm charging 300 dollars for both of them. It may sound like a lot, but it works out to be 30 dollars per day per child including their sleep time. That's little more than a dollar per hour each. I suppose if a person can afford to go to Rome, they can afford childcare :) They was offering more to someone in their home, but I offered less for doing it in my own.

I'm doing the exact thing as you with my two kids (24 hrs) and I left it up to my babysitter. She came back with $150. I usually pay her $10/hr for a normal evening out. So if you do that math, its $240. Just b/c she's sleeping doesn't mean she's not giving up her time to do something else or be somewhere else. She's comitting her time to you. So I felt $150 was fair. I also have two kids (one is a baby) and I think you only have one son right? So maybe $100-$125 might be more fair.

45.00 for weekends and or over nights. That's what some daycare care providers charge. J.

My immediate thought before reading your whole question was $100. Since you helped her out and she has offered to do it for free, I think you could give her $50 and she would be really happy with that b/c she was expecting to do it for free.

I would say double whatever you would normally expect to pay for a day.
For example...I watch my 2 nieces sometimes for $60 a day, if I need to keep them overnight I get $120.
