My second son sat his little head or whatever right on my siatic nerve on my right side. I was in pain most of the pregnancy, needless to say I had no bladder control either. My leg often fell asleep and I had cramps in my leg and foot much of the time. Sound like you? I only found relief lying on my left side. I aso found siting on the floor on top of a pillow like you do in yoga worked beter then my legs in front of me in a chari of couch.

I had pains just down low, couldn't say if it was left or right. (My Dr. said "left" pains are poop waiting to get out.) I ended up with a low-lying placenta. It's pretty normal, just had to stay off my feet until about the 2nd trimester. The placenta eventually moved to a higher place, and all was well.

i would say you need to go to the dr. asap! i was 5 weeks preggers when i found out i had an eptopic. it all started with pain on my right side in the pelvic area. my tube was on the verge of exploding and i lost it, but if thats what y ou have and they detect it early enough they can take care of it and save the tube. there are some other symptoms so i would look it up on the internet and compare!

Congrats on your pregnancy! I had horrible pelvic and abdominal pains off and on throughout both my pregnancies (esp. the 1st trimester), although there seemed to be no major underlying issues. I'd definitely give a call to your doc if you have any concerns at all, just to be on the safe side-- esp. if the pain is always in the same spot and doesn't let up. Good luck!

One possibility that has not been mentioned yet is an ectopic pregnancy. If the pain intensifies and doesn't move it could be that the baby is developing in the fallopian tube, which does not stretch. If the pain doesn't subside it is always a good idea to discuss it with your health care provider in order to get more ideas and options on what to do and expect. But, don't worry yet, it could just be intestinal distress that will pass soon enough.

I think the pains you are feeling are things just starting to stretch out, given you are in the first trimester. I had pains like that too and my doc said pains on the sides are allright- pains in the middle are not. So, I'm betting that you are totally fine and that this is a good thing (meaning you are moving along in your pregnancy like you should). But, if the pain gets more intense or doesn't go away with Tylenol I would call the doc to be on the safe side- someone mentioned possible appendicitis..........

With pain in pregnancy it is imperative you call your Dr. Just call to even ask the nurse if it is a concern. I would never just go with what you read on here, (though everyone is probably right), when it comes to early pregnancy and pain you haven't been able to identify. Better safe then sorry.

What you are feeling could be normal. Every pregnancy is different. My two pregnancy's we different. And I was told that you do feel more things in your second pregnancy. If it is getting really bad and you are worried about it, call your doctor.

Hi J.,

I am a physical therapist, and of course this pain could be a number of things non serious and pregnancy related however the location is what has me wondering if it is your appendix. Place two fingers over the pain and quickly push in and quickly back out. If it hurts more with the "back out" motion it is likely your appendix. If this does triggers your pain, you should see a doctor right away!

Someone already mentioned that it could be your appendix. The location is right, and the pain is definitely nagging...until it gets worse and "mysteriously" goes away.
It also could be another afore mentioned thing: ectopic pregnancy.
Either way, don't hesitate to get it checked out. It could be nothing, but it could be something life-threatening. It's better to be looked at and feel silly than end up in serious trouble.
Good luck, and please let us know how you are when you get a chance!

Hi J.,
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I would definitely call your doctor. I had the same lower abdominal pain in my 1st trimester and I was afraid I might of had a Urinary Tract Infection. They aren't uncommon in pregnancy. It is hard to tell if you have one because one of the symptoms is frequent urination.. which I am sure you already have. I went in for a urine test and a small exam to rule it out. It turned out to just be ligament pains. But the pains did hurt. You will feel so much better if you check. Other than that, drink lots of water and lay down as often as you can. Good luck to you!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! When both of my sisters were pregnant, they had pain on their right side. They discovered their gallbladder was inflammed and needed to be removed after their pregnancies. I had my gallbladder removed prior to marriage because I kept having gallbladder attacks and eventually it got inflammed and bothersome, so they removed it. Anyway, I don't know if that is your case, but I would go in and talk with your OBGYN to be sure. Good luck with your pregnacy.

Hi J.!
You may not have anything to worry about, but I would check it out. Like these two gals said, you never know! I had pain on my left side with my first, and what I had was a cyst. It dissolved on it's own, but it hurt a lot!! I had no idea what it was until I went in. Better safe than sorry.

Good luck to you!!

Congrats on your pregnancy! So many things change in your body when you are pregnant, and what you are experiencing is probably normal, but you should probably still call your clinic and talk to the nurse there. You probably dont need to go in, but I would talk to your health care providers and see what they think.

Go to a doctor, now. If you have an ectopic pregnancy, it could be really painful and your tubes could explode. Call your doctor ASAP!

Hi J.:

As several folks already mentioned, you should check it out right away in case of an ectopic pregnancy. But those pains also sound consistent with my experience of appendicitis.

I had "twingy" pains on and off on my lower right abdomen for several years, and occasionally through the latter part of my pregnancy. Nothing serious, I just thought it might be a pulled tendon or something. They were so minor I never thought anything of it, and they usually disappeared in a week or so.

Then six months after my son was born, the pain returned worse than before (along with severe nausea, etc.) and I ended up having an emergency appendectomy. Not all cases of appendicitis are automatically severe -- so I was probably having minor flare-ups for years before "The Big One" hit.

Good luck.

When my sister was about 7 weeks pregnant, she started having pains in her right side. She ended up having an acute appendicitis attack. So if you have any questions at all, get it checked out. Good luck

First thing the doc will ask is if you are bleeding? If no, that is good. Have you tried resting when you get the pain? Have you drank the god-awful amount of water they want you to drink when you are pregnant? LOL Sorry, I was in bed for 6 months the first time and 7 the second time because of problems. I know every question they will ask and so I figured I could have you try all that first. If resting or hydration doesnt take it away then I definatly suggest calling your doctor. Trust your mommy instinct, if you are worried, never hesitate to call and ask or go in. Don't worry what people will think or say. You know your body and you know your child, trust that. Then if its nothing, at least you know for sure! good luck!

I would have it checked out. I was 7 week pregnant when I had to have my appendix taken out!
My baby is fine and is now 4 months old, but had we not caught it in time, the "fetus" would not have survived, had the appendix burst.
It could be nothing, but my doc said that gallbladder and appendix issues are more common in pregnancy then most people know of.
I would think for piece of mind you should go see your OB right away just to be safe!

I had the same pain for most of my pregnancy. Mine started about the same time as yours. Actually what happened is she stayed on my right side for most of my pregnancy. She was born with tortacaulous and her head is flatter on one side but with a little Physical Therapy she's doing great! I wouldn't worry but ask your Dr next time your in. Congrats on the new one!
