I had an ovarian cyst removed via emergency lap surgery on 7/31. I seem to be healing nicely, sutures all look clean, minimal swelling. However as of yesterday my ovary is KILLING me. Back to the same pain I had before the surgery, where it hurts to breathe, and Im stuck in a 90 degree angle. Ive already missed so much work, I have no option but to come and sit and my desk. I have a follow up appointment on Thurs 8/13, but i guess im curious if i should be concerned with the sudden on set of pain? Has anyone else experienced something similar?

What can I do next?

No, I have not experienced an ovarian cyst. I had 3 D&C's, ablation and hysterectomy.

You need to call the doctor's office that did your surgery and speak with them. If the surgery was NOT done by your regular OB/GYN - then you need to read the discharge paperwork that was given to you when you checked out of the hospital.

Do you have a fever with this pain?
Have any of your sutures changed color?
Do you have a foul smell from the sutured area?

Your health is more important than work - I know that sounds weird since you need your job to keep a roof over your head - however - if you're ignoring signs that your body is giving you? You might not be around to have a roof over your head!

Please take care of yourself. Call your doctor.

Call you doctor!
Something new must be going on.
What if somethings in a twist or you have appendicitis?
See your doctor ASAP and if he can't see you right away - go to the ER.

I've had that surgery done few times, plus other female surgery. I am wondering if you have 1 of 2 things going on.

1-It is possible you have an infection or another cyst going on that needs to be treated. For me, what often happens is that I get several cysts in a row that need to be treated and sometimes I get an infection afterwards.

2-Additionally, I wonder if something has become twisted or inverted inside, something I've had happened to me, and needed surgery. This needs immediate treatment.

I can't really diagnose because I'm not a doctor; I can only speak to what has happened to me. I can only suggest that if the pain get much worse, or it increases suddenly or you have a fever, you need to get to an ER, and not wait for your appointment. Pain like this isn't something to mess with, as you know. If you got to the ER and they release you, be sure to keep your appointment.

I'm sorry you feel yucky. Issues like this are awful. Good luck.

Read your discharge and post surgical instructions. What do they say about post surgical pain? Do you have a fever? Any other symptoms? Call your surgeon's office and talk to a nurse. Find out if you need to go to the ER and get check out.
