Ozzy Osbourne Appropriate for an 11 Year Old?

Our 11 year old son is very much into Guitar Hero, and is learning to play electric guitar. I don't know how he even knows about Ozzy Osbourne, but he's dying to see the concert coming up next week at the Sprint Center. Does anyone know whether Ozzy Osbourne's music and shows are appropriate for kids our son's age? I don't know how to find this out!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. I have to admit, I never listened to Black Sabbath when I was a kid. I was more of a Neil Young and Rod Stewart kind of a girl! We have spent the entire day looking at lyrics and concert reviews and your advice and other stuff we found on line. I'm the step-witch, so ultimately I did not want to push Dad too hard one way or the other but I did share all your thoughts with him. I think he's decided to pass this year. I think the thing that's stopping him is our son's irreverence. He already pushes the envelope quite a ways in terms of how he talks to adults, etc, and we're not quite ready for him to become more verbally aggressive. Not to mention start begging for tattoos and piercings. Not that we'd let him, but he already has enough stuff to beg for! There are plenty of cool concerts out there...

Again, I do think hearing from you who've seen or know of OO's concerts helped him make up his mind. So... thank you everyone!

I think it would be fine but I would recommend you go with him. I'm a huge Ozzy fan and I think he's gotten a bad rap over the year because of his theatrics. He's mellowed out a lot in his old age but the music is still good.

My initial reaction was no- then I read some of the comments here and thought, well okay yes.

But honestly, if it were my 11 year old I wouldn't (mine isn't quite 11 yet)AND I think the main reason I say not is b/c of the environment- the other people that will be there and such.

I definitely wouldn't let him go alone-it would be with me or another family member.

And of course here was my other thought "YOu mean there is finally a show at the SPrint Center that didn't sell out?"

I am going to have to go the other way and say yes let him go, WITH YOU. Generational music is something parents will never understand (mine didn't, their's didn't and so on). Kids will listen to whatever they want regardless of how their parent's feel - they will find a way. By going with him !.)He will be safe 2.) He will feel like you honestly care about his interests and 3.) You may just learn a little more about him than you already know and we all know how important that can be. My parents "drew the line" on a lot of things, but not music.
I'm not an Ozzy fan but my husband is a musician and while he's not a fan either - he would see him for the sole purpose of it being a once in a lifetime experience. It would be the chance to see a musical legend - which agree with or like his music or not - Ozzy Osbourne is. Furthermore, the man is like 60 something and I believe his bat-biting days are behind him. He swears but I'm sure your son is aware of bad language etc. If he's so hard to understand, that won't be a problem. It sounds as if your son is after the musical experience not the stage tactics.
Go with him, bond with him, experience something that excites him - and bring ear plugs! :)

I would have to agree with the NO's. Ozzy's music first of all is not 11 year old appropiate in my oppinion much less the environment as other mom's have mentioned. I do agree that the experience is not necessarily a bad thing but I would recommend a concert that was a little less R rated as another mom put it. I have heard that Bon Jovi is coming to the Sprint center. Perhaps you can tell him that Ozzy is out but offer Bon Jovi as an alternative. Bon Jovi is still rock and very popular as well as being a legend but the crowd will be a little less doped up with fewer tatoos and body piercings. I would still recommend that an adult (preferably a patent) accompany him. One other suggestion, go to a record store where you can preview CD's before you buy them and check out Ozzy for yourself. That way you KNOW what he is listening to and can make a more educated decision.

I would also have to say no. Even if Ozzy himself wasn't that bad you have to think about the other fans and the environment your son would be in. Also, Rob Zombie is the opening act so between Ozzy, Rob Zombie and the environment I think it would be a bit much for an 11 year old!! Maybe if he was like 16 or something it would be different.

No, absolutely not! Half the time you can't understand what he is saying because he is so strung out on drugs, and what you can understand it curse words. JMHO. D.

I don't usually respond to these but this one I had to share. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am very familiar with Ozzy's music and I don't recommend it. It's one thing to hear the music but his shows have been pretty grotesque. He's the singer who bit a mouse's head off during a show. YUCK! My suggestion from one mother to another is to not allow going to the concert. Good luck!
