Overnight Diaper Leaks

My favorite brands are Pampers/Luvs (same company) and Kirkland (Costco). My boys went through phases where we had to put them in one size larger for overnight. Absorbed more and helped prevent leaks.

My oldest had leaks all the time, espically at night. Because she was a very thin baby. Luvs and Pampers worked really well for her, I would stay away from Huggies and store brands. I hope this helps, good luck!

In my experience every kid is different as far as diapers go - I don't know if it's a physiological difference or what, but I've heard some swear by Pampers and others by Huggies and even others who would never give up the store brands. I just recommend trying a few different ones and see what works. Some people also use the next size up over-night, but if she's tiny that probably would be more or a problem than a solution. I guess what I'm saying is it's a trial and error situation - pampers worked great with my son but leaked all over my daughter and huggies worked for her, so I really think you just have to experiment - I hope some of these tips help you arrive at a solution!

We liked Huggies brand better - mainly because of leaking we had in other brands... I remember having problems like yours and remember buying 1 size larger to use for nighttimes. It worked!

Try Luvs, they're great! We hardly had any leaks with our two kids. Vinyl pants would just lock in too much heat and may cause heat rash.

I had the same problem with my youngest child, although I do not remember what age he was. I used a size larger diaper(I use pampers or luvs) and still had trouble with leaking out the top. So, I used a vinyl diaper cover(which are meant for covering cloth diapers) and that seemed to do the trick. When he was big enough to use the Huggies Overnights(which do start at size 4, so I used them when he was in a size 3 normal diaper) I used that and a vinyl cover. He is 11 months old and I still do that. I have trouble occasionally with leaking but not like it was. I like the idea of folding down the top like someone else wrote in. I have gotten the huggies overnights and walmart and Meijer.

I am all about using pampers but I started having the same problems with my daughter. I usually move up a one size but since you did that already..... I had a friend give me Huggies and they have stopped her from having leaking problems. So I use the Huggies at night and Pampers during the day. I like pampers. Hope that helps!

We use Huggies Overnight diapers. The work well most of the time. Good luck.

My son had the same problem so I started putting bigger diapers on him at night. I just use the next size up, so you could try size 3 just at night. They are really big on him but generally don't leak. I also fold down the top toward him just a little to make a "pocket" and that works, too. I use Luv's which work great for us! Good luck!

Even though the weight limit may not match, go to the next size up! It will work, I promise.

I have used Pampers and really do not care for them. My daughter is 9 weeks old and she has leaked through a few different diapers, but as for urine, that has never leaked. I always get the poop to leak up her back, which is just great to clean up!

I use Huggies and I think they work GREAT! The Huggies (the ones with Winnie the Pooh) are thicker than Pampers, in my opinion. You will be able to tell when they are full too because the front of the diaper will swell.

I use Luvs. The Pampers baby-dry always seemed to do that with my twins too. The Pampers Swaddlers are also really good.

Pampers Swaddlers seemed to work well for my daughter, they make a size 2-3 that was great for a long time. I don't pay much attention to the weight on the diaper box, just use the one that will get you through the night!

We had the same problem. We started with Pampers and when our daughter starting sleeping through the night, wet clothes galore! We switched to Huggies Ultra and it seemed to do the trick most nights.

Hi, my son had problems with those too, and we did several things: 1st we tried not to give our baby too much to drink a few hours before going to sleep, and always changed him right before bedtime. Then, go to a bigger size diaper and make sure they fit snug around his legs. In our desperation we found some diaper liners (they used to sell them at Walgreens, but don't know if they still do - you may want to research online). There may be some liners for elderly persons which may do as well. We did put a plastic pant around it but in the summer it was too hot. And of course we covered the mattress with a plastic cover, that was a big time saver, in case of more leaks. Make sure you cover the mattress very well. Good luck! I had the same problem - wetness around the top of the diaper from sleeping 10-12 hours per night. Instead of switching brands (because we love Pampers) we moved up to the next bigger size. Voila! Problem solved. Give the next size up a chance and see how that works for you.

Try a different brand of diapers. Luvs worked for us.

Try the Huggies Overnight. I don't really like Huggies but these were great for my son. I could not find them in any store and ordered them from either www.amazon.com or www.diaper.com. Although the last time I checked diaper.com, they didn't have them.

I have only ever found thema t babys r us. but they sell overnight diapers( i think pampers sell them) i havent had to use them in a while. but i do beleive that they start at size one or two.

Try Pampers swaddlers. I like them better than the Baby Dry. We used swaddlers and we are now using pampers crusiers, since my daughter is 17 mo. Make sure also that you have the right size. As my daughter grew, we moved up in size a little before I thought we would, but if you do that, you may have less mess. If we every had #2 coming up the back it was time to change sizes and then we didn't have that problem again.

Hi A.. I know that Huggies makes Overnights which are great for just that...overnight. I believe though that they start at stage 3. I'm not sure what the weight range is but you could check it out as a possibility. I had to use those with my oldest because starting at about 3 months she would soak through her clothes by the time she woke up in the morning. Good luck!

Huggies Overnights in the purple pack helped regain our sanity.

I used a little bit bigger diaper and tucked the front under to block the wetness. It worked for me for both my kids when they were babies.

Until my son was big enough to wear the Huggies Overnights diapers, I used a product called Diaper Doublers. They look like maxi pads, but they lay inside the diaper and act as extra absorbency for overnight or even daytime use. I purchased them at Babies R' Us for $2.99 for a pack of 30 pads. Good luck.

We preferred using the Pampers Swaddlers until our kids were big enough to go into the Cruisers. We rarely had a leak with those! Tried pretty much all the brands and that was what worked for us. Our kids are both very thin so having a good fit was extra important to keep all the stuff in! :)

We had a similar problem with our two boys. We switched them to Pamper's Swadlers, size 2 at night and this has helped a ton!

Switch to cloth diapers. A pocket diaper is great because you can double stuff them and soak up more! It's cheaper, it's better for the environment, and it's easier than people realize.

If your baby is soaked in the morning, then maybe you should change her once during the night. You can even keep a diaper and wipes in your room if she still sleeps in your bedroom so you won't disturb her as much. Don't talk or play with her at all and try to be as quick as possible so you won't wake her all the way. Put her back to sleep, or pat her to sleep just to make sure she goes back to sleep.

Hi! Have you tried Huggies Overnight diapers? I normally buy mine at Target (they are in a purple package). I use regular diapers during the day but switch to the overnight diapers at night. They're great! Hope this helps!

I have found that the Pampers Swaddlers are much better than the Baby dry. I use the Cruisers with my daughter and have always used Pampers. I do know that the Huggies Surpreme, or Baby Fit are also really good. They have elastic gathering at the back so they don't leak out as much from the top. Hope that you find a solution!

When I had problems with my son's diaper leaking, I swithced from Pampers to Huggies because they have the elastic around the back. He is now 17 months old and we have had some wet clothes but not like we did before we switched! The switch also helped for him not to poop up the back. Hope this helps.

I am a cloth diapering mama. So, my advice would be to forgo "pampers" altogether:) But I can also recommend using the vinyl toddler training pants for overnight protection. They are super padded. I put them on top of my regular cloth diaper for overnight. So, I would assume you could put it on top of your pamper. They are made by Gerber and I have found them at both Kmart and Target in their baby aisle. Don't go by the size as you will want them a little bigger as you will be fitting over a diaper. For instance my 16 month old wears 3T. Hope that helps!!

Oh yes! I had the same problems. Try the Huggies Overnights. Also - try to do one piece pj's. I found the elastic waist on the two piece just would make matters worse. If they don't have the overnights that small, go up a size in diapers - that way they get all the way up to the waist and try huggies. I'm a pampers girl myself, but huggies had a longer cut and worked well at night. Good luck!

For both of my boys I used the Huggies Overnights. They are in a purple package and most places don't sell them. If you have a Wal-mart near you, that is only place I usually can find them. They really do work. Occasionally they still pee through them, but MUCH less often than without them! Good luck! I know that can be a pain!!

I also had this same problem when my daughter was little (23 years ago). I bought the plastic baby pants that go over the cloth diapers. It worked great. An added plus was that she slept longer in the mornings because she was dry.

You might try Diaper Doublers which are available at Babies R Us and Toys R Us. They are kind of like a sanitary napkin that you just put inside the diaper and it provides extra absorbency. These have been a life (and laundry!) saver for us and they only cost $2.99 for a pack of 30.

Common problem! The Pampers Baby Dry seem to leak a lot (even during the day). I really like Pampers Cruisers (purple package) for during the day. I also have used the Diaper Doublers (pad insert) at night and loved them. I use those when my babies are still too small for overnight diapers. The Huggies Overnights are really good when they get a little bigger. I use them now. You can find those at Target and Wal-mart, but they usually start at size 4 that I have seen.

We had the same problem with our son. We moved him up a size in diapers. Everytime he would hit a growth spurt he would start leaking out of the top of his diaper at night.

Try the next size up or use Cruisers. I personally think Pampers Cruisers are soo soo much better. It is the diaper P&G spends the most money on each year to improve. It's their top of the line.

I had a friend who put 2 Huggies one over the other for her little boy who would always soak his diapers.

I have a couple suggestions. First, you could use a bigger size diaper for nighttime. Also, Huggies Overnights are great and never leak, but sometimes hard to find and more expensive. The best thing I've used is a Diaper Doubler. They are cheap and work great. I've only found them at Babies R Us for under $3.00 for 30. They look like maxi pads, so you just add them to your diaper. You can also put one in for a long car ride, or grocery store, or anytime you might have a leak.

I am a HUGE fan of the Sam's club brand Member's Mark diapers. I was a die hard Huggies fan even through leaks and such until someone purchased a box of the Sam's Club brand for us as a gift. Since then I've never looked back. They are far superior to Huggies or Pampers and I get to save money. If you have a membership I definitely recommend picking up a box. You won't be sorry!

I always used the Pampers Swaddlers, they hugged well and never leaked on us. I too used the size 2-3 at night at that age.

Try Luvs. Believe it or not thy are probably the most absorbent diaper that I have used on both of my children. And they are cheaper.

Every time I have bought Pampers (great sale, or forgot about them always leaking)THEY ALWAYS LEAK! Huggies have taken us through 3 kids with great success. Why continue to use a faulty product? I've called for a refund twice for Pampers. You would think they would get the message, since many people seem to have had this same problem.

I actually prefer the Pampers over anything else. I have had the same problem with my son now 20 months. It seems like the best thing to do when you start gettng leaks is to move up in diaper size.

We've found that the only diapers that don't leak for our two 2 year olds are Luvs. They are also the least expensive of the name brands.

I always knew I had to go up to the next size diaper when you start getting leaks. If you like that brand trying moving up a size and see if that helps. I don't use Pampers b/c my sons are allergic to them. I use Huggies. However I have to buy the completely red package Huggies, the red/white package ones are not as good and they leak too.

Put her in Size 3 for overnight. They will seem huge on her, but they absorb a lot more, and will not leak!

P.S. I wish my 5 month old was sleeping through the night!!!

Huggies make a great overnight diaper call Huggies Overnight. It comes in a purple bag, and target carries it. I don't know how small the sizes go to, but they work great for my boys.

That's EXACTLY what I'd do.....go get the old fashioned plastic/vinyl "panties" that people used to use over cloth diapers. They worked then....and they STILL do!

Try Huggies, they keep our one year old dry all night. We have been using Huggies for at least six months.

I use Huggies Nighttime diapers for my son. We had the same problem with him when he started sleeping through the night. So, he has diapers for day and night. We also find out when he was younger that when he started wetting through at night it was time to move to the next size diaper.

You can tuck the top of the diaper inside the waistline and tighten the sides a bit. You can also look for diapers with elastic at the waist to have a tighter fit.

It almost sounds as if baby rolls over to her tummy, curls into the fetal position with her butt up in the air. It's probably just rolling down.

As I think back, I think I had to change my little one in the middle of the night for a while. I would leave the lights off and change my boys in the dark. (After that many diaper changes, you don't really need light.) ;-D

Once my kids got out of the swaddlers Pampers diapers were HORRIBLE!!!! I remember having the same problem with Pampers and finally ended up giving an almost full package away because I had dirty p.j's every morning and was tired of messing with it. I moved to Luvs and Huggies and those were way better. I use Huggies exclusively now - those are my favorite - but Luvs were good as well. Hope you find a brand that works!

We had the same problem with my son and we found the Huggies Overnight diapers really did help. I don't know what size the overnights start at, but they were a huge help to us.

Hey A.! Congratulations on the new baby girl! Aren't they precious! I use the same diapers on my almost 7 month old baby girl, and just once I had a leak out the top. I don't think I had the diaper taped tight enough. Of course, you don't want to squeeze her little belly, but make sure it's snug enough. My daughter is tiny like yours -- we just moved up to a size three a couple of weeks ago, and that's when it happened. Maybe the size 2 is a bit big for her. Did you try the size 1-2? Good luck! I've used Pampers for all three of my kids, and I've had the best luck with them.

A., I would suggest Huggies. I used Luvs and Pampers with my girls but huggies worked best for my son. My girls were normal size and my son was very skinny. If tht doesn't work, try a bigger size diaper. They will hold more. Good luck! J.(Mom of 3)

When we hit those issues we simply used the next largest diaper during the night. If your daughter is wet like that it may wake her and she will be waking during the night again. I'd use #3 for overnight. Pampers are still my diaper of choice.

My son had the same issue. I found these diaper pads called Diaper Doublers at Babies R Us. They are about $3 for 30 pads. You just put them in the diaper. They seem to help. I also found that Luvs diapers work best for him. You might want to try some different diapers as they all fit differently.

Congrats on your 3mo old and the fact that she is sleeping longer now! :) We used Pampers for awhile as well and had the exact same problem. We tried double diapering at night and it did come out the top with Pampers. We found Huggies to be a lot more absorbent and we double diaper with those each night too...just to be safe. She hasn't had a leak since we switched to Huggies. Pampers are more breathable, so we use those during the day, but Huggies are better for holding lots of moisture.

My 14 mo is just now moving out of stage 2s so we've have LOTS of experience and I do diaper study's through P&G, so we've had a large variety from them. I found that the baby dry tend to leak more at night but the swaddlers worked wonders. We had to find a technique to make sure the diaper was on so it would minimize leakage while in diaper studies, but we made it! Now that he's 19 lbs he is just starting to leak again so we've moved to 3s at night.

My daughter went through the same thing. What seemed to work for me was using a bigger size diaper at night. Now she wakes up dry.

HI A. - you might try double diapering her or maybe the diapers are too big. Try putting a #1 underneath the #2. Maybe you will only have one wet diaper by the morning but this may save you from washing so many clothes.
