Yes, it happened to me both times. I did not dilate at all before I went into labor. Then it all happened fast.
My due date was this past Thursday and at the appt that day my dr. said I was not dilated at all yet. "Still closed up" is how she put it. This is my second baby. My first baby was also late - 5 days - but I was at least dilated 1 cm for a couple of weeks prior to his arrival. Has anyone had any experience like this or know of someone who did? Just wondering if it could still go into labor at any moment without being dilated for several days/weeks prior?

I had the same situation with my first baby, and she was born 11 days past her due date. I was so frustrated and uncomfortable. It is possible for you to quickly dialate and go into labor at any time though! Good luck!
My friend did this and after a few days they induced her. The placenta had already started breaking down so it is important the doc keeps an eye on you. Good luck with the new baby!
Have a friend that's always late - she's on number 6 and every one of her kids has been 7-10 days past the due date number 5 was a week late and took about 4 hours from start to finish. So as uncomfortable and anxious as you are, yep, you can go past your due date with no progress and it can hit you so fast you'll barely have time to get the hospital.
Yes, one day " closed up" , couple days later, water breaking & full labor.
At 40 weeks - not dilated. At 41 weeks - not dilated. At 42 weeks, induced!
You don't have to dialate as labor nears. You can go at any time.My last 3 I didn't go any farther than a 2 the last 3 of my L&Ds went fast 45 min from leaving the house to baby in my arms.Be ready to go...
It's meaningless-- you can walk around dialeted at 3 or 4 for weeks OR you can go from 0-10 in an hour!
