I've had ovarian cysts several times. I've been told that they usually they go away in a few days to a week. I have endometriosis and had a lot of abdominal and back pain. The way I've known that I had cysts was with an ultra sound. Because my pain is caused by things other than the cysts I've not been able to tell when I had them or when they went away

Whether or not you have cysts or when they go away is different for each person. There is no predicting anything until you've experienced them more than once and you can see a pattern.

I've not experienced more pain when I get out of bed. It could be because the congestion has built up over night and when you move around your system drains it out.

Later: When I think about it, I'm not sure that it's the cyst that goes away in a few days or a week. I think I'm thinking of when an egg erupts. I think that a cyst can go away that quickly but it can also last longer. This article suggests that they go away in weeks,

I didn't realize that there are several different kinds of ovarian cysts.

I think there are different types of ovarian cysts. Mine were a side effect of taking Chlomid and became very large. I remember the pain (back, abdominal & sciatic) was quite unbearable at times but not necessarily more in the morning. The doctor eventually aspirated mine after the pain become too severe. I was put on birth control pills for 6 months to keep them from coming back and thankfully they did not. Hope you get some relief soon. :)

The one that I had that hurt for so long like yours ended up being 7 cms and my doctor felt lucky to be able to save my ovary. I had to have laproscopic surgery because of that cyst. After that, I started having bursting cysts. Bursting cysts hurt SO MUCH that they compare the pain second to childbirth and passing a kidney stone. I pulled a muscle in my shoulder during it - it actually caused my BODY (not brain) to convulse.

Yet... bursting cysts are better than cysts that don't burst, but just fill up. My mom had cysts all over her ovaries, and when they removed them, as soon as the laid the cysts in the container, they burst all over the container. Her doctor was SO worried that they were cancerous that he had an oncology surgeon in the room with him. Thankfully there was no cancer. However, having myself been through bursting cysts, I know she had NO idea the pain she would have been in if they had burst in her before the surgery. Whew!

I take it that you have had an ultrasound, right? Don't let this go too long. It is dangerous to let a cyst that gets bigger and bigger and doesn't burst stay inside you. Work with your doctor, Mom.

Thinking of you~

I had one but didn't know it (shame on me for skipping my annual exam), until one day I started having extreme pain. It was the size of a softball and wasn't going to go away, but had to be surgically removed. It's been quite a few years, and I haven't had any other issues.
