Hello everyone, I am wondering if anyone here has had an ovarian cyst while pregnant....and if so did you have it removed while still pregnant and what was the experience like??
I have a large one in my left ovary and they are pretty sure it isn't cancer but they want to remove it before the baby comes so they can make for sure. I'm 21wks right now...and I meet with the doc again next week to go over my options and the risks of them all. I'm not really scared about the removal I just wanted to here from anyone else who has experienced this or something similar.
Thanks for any comments.
T.

I am surprised they want to remove it while you're pregnant! I'm not an expert or anything, but I have had ovarian cysts before, although I was not pregnant at the time. So, my advice might not help much, just wanted to share my experience with you. The few times I had a cyst, it was pretty painful, but I was told it should take care of itself in time, and they just kept an eye on it. It finally would rupture, and I would feel alot better. My doctors did not seem very concerned about it and explained that it is very common. My suggestion to you, is to get a second, or even third opinion before going through with the surgery. I would be concerned that undergoing surgery while pregnant might be more dangerous that waiting for the cyst to rupture.

Well, I was'nt pregnant at the time when I had them. The doctor gave me medicine to dissolve mine, but since you're pregnant, I'm not sure if they would do that.

Yes, and let me tell you, if they want to remove it let them do it. I did not know I had one and in the middle of the night I was awaken to the most excruciating pain. I thought I had eaten something really bad. I was doubled over in pain, throwing up and on the toilet. I somehow went back to sleep because I just thought it was food poisoning or something. The next morning the pain was still there and even worse. I was taken to the emergency room which is where I was told "Did you know you are pregnant?" My husband and I were trying to get pregnant so I was very scared to find out what the problem was. After an ultrasound was done it was revealed that I had an ovarian cyst that had ruptured and I was bleeding internally. Surgery was the only option. They were able to stop the bleeding, repair my ovary and 8 months later I gave birth to a healthy baby girl. That was 8 1/2 years ago. I would not want anyone to go through what I did.

I found out I was pregnant when I went to my GYN for an ovarian cyst they found it and a few weeks later they went to look at it again and found out I was pregnant. My sister also had one while she was pregnant and had the removal surgury and it was no risk to the baby she did complain more about being sore and she said it hurt to pee and things like that. Well congrats on the baby, hope all goes well. take care
