I have found out that I have ovarian cysts on my ovaries. Several on my right and a large one on my left that I have to have surgically removed. I have found this to be the reason that I have not been able to concieve. I will start fertility treatments after surgery. Has anyone else had this problem and how quickly did they concieve after starting fertility treatments?

What can I do next?

I have been through this and eventually lost both of my ovaries because I did not know about homeopathy yet. I did concieve about 2 years after my surgery, but I still needed help. The next cyst was pre-cancerous removed during a partial hysterectomy. I know you can start treatments as soon as you heal from surgery. However, if you want another way altogether, e-mail me.

ok, i'm going to be as helpful as possible.... i read through a few responses and i don't think you should ever try anything natural w/out dr's advise about it. so many people are into this alternative health mumbo jumbo but don't realize the adverse affects. dr's are aware of modern med as well as western (holistic). anyway, i would "try" when your dr gives you the okay b/c you may not even need the treatments. i'm sure you dr will advise you of that as well. how are you feeling though? have you been cramping this whole time too? i'm so sorry for all that you've been through. good luck with everything!!!

Been there. I had ovarian cysts and polyps in my uterus, all that had to be removed. I hadn't been on any form of birth control for eight years prior to this. I had surgery in August, I believe. My doc said that if I wasn't pregnant by Feb he would put me on fertility treatment. Now to trail off a little, that year we bought my oldest son a prayer journal. He could write down prayer requests and who he would like to bless , etc. , etc. Anyway, he got it for Christmas. I got pregnant on Dec. 26, found out Jan. 9, and had a healthy baby boy on Sept. 2. What I am telling you is to keep the faith! Don't jump on the fertility drugs to quickly. You could end up with more babies than you want to handle. Give your body some time to heal up and then see what Gods plan is. I wish you all the luck in the world with your desire to be pregnant. I know it is difficult to want it so badly and struggle to get there. Just so you know, the surgery is not that bad! Not much to worry about in the way of pain or anything. I hope that I have helped to answer your question and to go one step further and ease any worried you may have had about the surgery. Good luck to you, Shannon G.

I have had the same problem. The only thing with me is that they ended up having to take my overies. They kept getting bigger and bigger and they were causing all sorts of problems. I went in one year for a uterus removal, and then in about 18 months, they took one ovary and scraped the other because of the cysts. In about another16 months, they told me that they took half of the ovary because the other one was about half absorbed. The very next year, I went again with problems and they said that it had grown to the size of a basketball and it had to come out. So I ended up with everything removed before I was 40. My story probably isn't what you want to hear, but if they are not taken care of early, that is what can happen. If you want to talk more, my email is ____@____.com yours isn't that bad. God Bless you. D. G.

The natural community regards polycystic ovaries to be most often caused by estrogen dominance... the general recommendation is to supplement by applying a natural progesterone cream into the soft skin of your chest or the underside of your arms once or twice a day. A vast percentage of American women are estrogen dominant, due to hormones in meat and chemicals in plastics that behave as estrogens. Here's a link if you want to investigate: http://www.johnleemd.com/ It's always better to treat the cause than the symptoms!

Dear M., yes I had an ovarian cyst but only one. A specialist went up in and burst it, it hurt so bad. Fluid ran out and flooded the hospital bed. When I was 23 my left overy became hard as a peach seed, I had surgery to remove the overy and my Dr. said that I would not be able to have anymore children, we had a daughter at that time who was 3yr. Anyway after that surgery I had a miscarriage and a false pregnancy we thought there would be no more babies. Then 8 1/2 years we had a healthy son and almost three years later another son. Doctors don't know everything :-) Good Luck and don't give up. This may not have helped any but hang in there if God wants it for you it will happen.

I had also had ovarian cysts which are excruciating! I had gone back in for a check up to see how they were doing and they were gone. The next week I ended up getting pregnant without fertility!!! If the cysts will be removed, try getting pregnant again without fertility. I have a 2 yr old and twin 8 month olds (they are 18 months apart). I love all my boys, but multiples is NOT easy. The best advice I can give you is to pray. I was in so much pain with the cysts that I asked God if I was to be a mom let me get pregnant or I was going to have to go back on birth control to help control the cysts. So pray like you've never prayed before!

Just a question, if you are having the cysts removed, why do you need fertility treatments? I would think that once they are gone, you would have a very good chance of getting pregnant.

Hi M.,

I have something called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I've had laparoscopies to have cysts lasered and have gone through 2 (successful) ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) cycles.

Once the cysts are taken care of surgically, the doctor will likely want you to wait 2 cycles to see if you can get pregnant.

THEN, if that doesn't work, fertility cycles would likely be the next step.

I can let you know who my doctor was if you're interested, just let me know.

I have been dealing with no/irregular cycles since the birth of my first child and may have ovarian cysts as well. I have been doing a lot of reading and there are some books out there, written by Western trained doctors, that suggest natural ways of helping resolve fertility issues. Two books I would recommend checking out are Fertility Foods, by Dr. Jeremy Groll and The Infertility Cure, by Randine Lewis, PH.D. I'm sure there are other good resources as well. It would at least be something to consider and talk over with your doctor. I wish you the best!
