Hi.... I suggest going to the websites below. They always have a lot of ideas on where to take children. Some events are even free. Have fun!

Looking for ideas on places to take a 9 month old for an afternoon.
We will be babysitting our 9 month old grandson and am trying to think of places to
take him that he would be able to enjoy. I would appreciate any ideas.
Thanks in advance

Wonder Works is not far from you (on North Ave. in Oak Park) and it's kind of a laid-back place where he can be around other children, you can read books together, play with blocks, etc. At 9 months, you can take him anywhere you enjoy. Use the excuse to do some of the things you never get around to going to like the museums, the zoo. Or just take him shopping! My first son loved home depot :-)
Oh, if the weather is nice, I've heard good things about this place in Oakbrook. Not just the museum, but it's supposed to be nice for just walking around: http://www.grauemill.org/
I like the aquarium b/c you will enjoy and it and all the lights and bright moving colors (of the fish) will be interesting to the baby. Enjoy!
The zoo is always nice. I know our almost 10 month old enjoyed it.
I'll bet anywhere you go will make this baby happy! He'll be with his special grandmother!
Check out www.kidwinks.com, where you'll find an Events Calendar so you can click on a day to find out what's going on. If you become a member, which is free, you can then sort those results in order of distance from your house. You can also browse through the Ongoing Activities Section, where you'll find categories along the left side of the screen to help guide you (like Indoor Activities, Outdoor Activities, Nature Centers, etc.). When he gets older, you can visit the Kids Eat Free Calendar in the Restaurants section to find out where he can eat free.
Have fun with your grandson!
If the weather is nice, you could go to Brookfield Zoo or Morton Arboretum. The Arboretum has their scarecrow exhibit up (made by local girls and boys groups). Another nice place is Naperville's Riverwalk. The trees are changing color and they also have a nice playground (over by Centennial Beach).
I also recommend the DuPage Children's Museum or a nice indoor shopping mall. Some malls (like Yorktown) have a train and a little enclosed play area. A 9month old doesn't need much to be entertained.
