Outgrown a Portacrib

Hi all,

On a recent trip to my mom's, I realized that my son has outgrown the playpen/portacrib for sleeping. Poor kid is longer than it when fully stretched out! Does anyone have a suggestion on a travel bed? I was looking at the Toddler Ready Beds, but I can't find them in a store to see with my own eyes and are available online. My only concern with these is the size. Brady is WAY tall for his age and, although he is only 2 1/2, most people think he is about four! Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. While Brady is in a regular twin bed at home and doing really well with that, we do travel several times a year to different places so buying a specific bed for him to leave at my mom's house would only solve the problem at one place. I did get a chance to look at a few beds and I really like the ones from One Step Ahead. It's long enough and light enough that it looks like the best option for us. Thanks again!! I really appreciate your time and suggestions.

My son slept in a regular bed at that age, actually started at 18 months. Do you need a travel bed or can he sleep in a regular bed there? What about an air mattress.

Just a thought

I was in big lots over the weekend and the make a cot that folds up the size of a playpen and it's made for children and it's inflatable. It was really a neat idea. I saw it at the big lots in Melbourne. Hope this helps.

We purchased the inflatable children's mattress from One Step Ahead, it has sides so they don't easily roll out, yet it is portable and light weight (better then the portacrib).

At his age and size it would seem to me that it would be a waste of money to buy a toddler bed. My son has also always been big for his age so I just skipped the toddler bed. I would say that if you are worried about him falling out of bed then just put a twin size mattress on the floor. I really think that Brady is ready for a big boy bed

When my sisters children visit, they bring a small blow-up mattress that has a sleeping bag on top. It's light weight and they can sip up the sides so that they don't fall out. They are wonderful travel items because they deflate and roll into small bundles! Good luck finding what works for you!

Is it possible to get a small toddler bed to keep at your mom's house for him so he has a bed there for when you visit? That probably would be easier than taking a bed over everytime you visit and he would have his own bed at Grandmas's

How often do you go to your mom's? Why not consider something more permanent that he can continue to sleep on as he grows and use a toddler rail so he doesn't fall off? Does she have a guest room? Can you buy her a hide-a-bed type sofa or trundle bed that can be a day bed? I never do understand when people spend a bunch of money on a special toddler size bed that they will outgrow so quickly
