well regardless (yes, they're not grass fed or organic), they're still made with "mechanically reclaimed meat" which is in reality for chicken means mostly bone, cartilage, beaks and feet. The stuff comes from chickens washed over 40 times in bleach, while these leftovers are gathered up, ground together, then bc its crawling with bacteria, washed again in ammonia. (hmm....seems I remember my momma saying something about not mixing those two....) Then they add a ton of sodium to keep it sanitary and tasting "good" (although anyone who makes a considered taste test and still declares that as "good" can only be described as "lacking taste buds"! >wink<<) - read: MSG. So if you are serious about making healthier choices for your kids regardless of their objections, throw em out!
If however, you have more work than time and can't spend two hours on every meal (I only do for dinner, for instance), then you might wanna keep these nasty things around for emergency meals or something! Even tree hugger, crispy hippie Bob can't green everything unless he goes all Thoreau. :D So no Mommy guilt allowed!
Congratulations on your decision for a healthier lifestyle! btw, you may want to look into a CSA (consumer supported agriculture) for your area. Contracting with a local farm for seasonal locally grown organics, grass fed meat and eggs has changed and simplified our lives dramatically! and OMGOSH!!! I never knew that REAL food tastes as good as it does!
