Opinions- Am I Overreacting

Hi-
I'm getting frustrated my son's doctor's office. We switched him in 2007 and scheduled a new patient physical. I showed up early and was informed they forgot to call me to cancel the appt with Dr. "H", and was told as a favor they might be able to squeeze me in with another doctor. So they did. 2008 physical same thing happened with Dr. "H" wasn't going to be able to see me but another doctor could squeeze me in.

My son is not one to really get sick and the only other appt. he had besides his physicals in the last 2 1/2 years was for eczema, which they referred us to a dermatologist.
He did have ring worm which we saw the dermatologist for.

Forward today. My son has to have outpatient surgery for dental work on 4-15. Call the doctor's office to get a surgery physical scheduled. Since he didn't see Dr. H, they took him off her regular patient list, nor is he listed as a regular patient with the other doctors. So now it would be a new patient appointment and they don't schedule surgery physicals till one week prior to the surgery date, then I get told they don't schedule this far in advance. I was told to call back first part of April. But she also said since he's a new patient they may not be able to even get him in time.

I'm just beyond frustrated and ready to find another doctor. I hate bouncing him to another doctor's office but I honestly hate the attitude they have.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for your replies! It only validated how I felt. I was really trying to see where they were coming from but was having a hard time understanding their ways.
Plus my biggest concern was not getting him this physical and having to cancel the surgery and wait another month to get it done. I was just blown way my the comments that the staff made. It's like he didn't matter because they don't see him enough.

Also, thank you for your doctor recommendations. I found a doctor that is in the same building as the dentist who's doing the dental work and they have a close working relationship. When I called, the staff was VERY helpful and understood the urgency.

I don't think you're overreacting at all. I think it's definitely time to find a new doc. I'd also bring up everything you told us here, or write it up in a formal complaint and send it to the doctor's office.

I'm not sure where you are, but we see Dr. Belzer and love him. His practice is called Pediatric Professional Association (http://www.ppadocs.com). We've seen some other doctors there as well and have been very happy with them all. We've never had any trouble getting in either. They have walk-in sick hours every morning, and during the cold/flu season they are open on Saturdays.

Hi Kristina,

I am so sorry that you are going through all of that. That is terrible for a doctor's office to be like that. Goodness, all you want is good professional care for your child and it doesn't sound like that is happening.

We switched doctors for our little one, and we really love the new office we go to! It is Johnson County Pediatrics in Shawnee, KS. We see Dr. Nelson, but have also seen Dr. Winburn. Here is a link to their website http://www.jocopediatrics.com/Home002000000.htm

Feel free to give them a call ###-###-####, and I am sure they can work you in with any of their doctors.

No you are not overreacting. We go to Pediatric Partners in Overland Park, I don't think I saw where you are located. We love all the doctors in the practice. Their website is doc4kidz.com

Good Luck!

You are not overreacting! I'm glad to see so much positive response for you already b/c it sounds a little like a nightmare! I would definitely talk to the office manager at Dr. H's office before doing anything else, especially if you'd like to schedule that surgery soon. If it were me, I'd insist they schedule it and deal with the wrath of me! ;) Then after that I'd find someone else and I'd tell the office exactly what you're problems were before you go. They need to know. Good luck!

Yeah....it's time to switch doctors. As much as you hate switching him, it sounds as if Dr. H and his/her office really doesn't care. Good luck in finding a new pediatrician.

Boy, I couldn't coop with the kind of disorganization that doctor's office operates under. It would make me concerned about their ability to properly track medical records, proper dosing, etc. If I were in your shoes, I'd make a switch right away. Good luck to you.

Hi Kristina,
I don't think you're overreacting at all. I'd be the same way. I have a 15 yo, 6 yo & 5 yo and they all see the doctors at Pediatric Professionals in OP (another mom gave you their info) and I agree with her that it's a great practice. If you are in the op area I highly recommend them. They can always squeeze you in (actualy they try really hard to even if you don't request to be seen that day) and when you're in their office they really listen to you and make sure they've answered all your questions before letting you leave. I hate when dr.'s rush you and seem to get annoyed when you ask questions or have more than one ailment. My dr. there is Dr. flint but they're all so good (except if you want someone with real kid personality, don't go with dr. Etzenhauser, great dr but not as 'fun' as the others!). Hope this helps!

You are not over-reacting at all. No doctors office should treat their people that way and I'd never tolerate it.
