Hello! I am thinking about opening a business in or near Pittsburg and don't really know where to start. I already have the business idea but, have never owned my own business before. Can anyone give me any pointers on how to go about getting the loans and such? Thanks in advance for your help!

I just started my own business and from a tax standpoint, you'll want to get a tax ID and separate bank account. If it's more of a hobby, you may be able to forego this, but the ID and bank account certainly make it more official for writing off the expenses you'll need to help with your tax situation. I also used LegalZoom.com to create my company as an LLC. As for credit, I know there are loans for women owned businesses. You may just search on the internet some. Good luck!

I know you can contact the SBA (they have "local" offices in most major cities), and they will help you get the loans and get started with your business. I personally have my own business referring others to a company that makes safer products for the home, your family, and the environment. My initial cost was $29, plus my first order. I love it because I get to work on *my* schedule, around my family's needs.

Good luck with your new venture, and hope this helps!

I have previously been a licensed mortgage loan officer and certified commercial loan broker specializing in SBA loans and Business Plan preparation. I started my husbands business (8yrs ago) with an SBA loan -- I now run my own wealth development program which proves to be more rewarding. The main goals are to 1)Get your Concept on Paper, 2) Prepare a detailed business plan including 1 year and 5year projections of income / expense and 3) make sure you have enough capital to make it through the first year! One of the most common mistakes is trying to start a traditional business on a shoestring -- you run out of money before you have a chance to make it happen!

What kind of business are you going to open? I started my own business in June 2007. I am a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant. It cost me 50.00 + my first order. It's great though, there are alot of short term loan companies, but check with the BBB to get backrounds on these companies. KEEP RECORDS OF ALL YOUR EXPENSES- FOR TAX PURPOSES. Good luck

I've been in HR and Mgmt in Corporate America, owned by own "traditional" buiness with tax id's, inventory, overhead, and a "store-front" where I had posted hours that dictated when I would be open, so of course, I had to be there. I've even had an eBay store. Now I have a business I started for $29, no inventory, no collecting money, no delivering product. AND best of all, I work my own hours around chuch, family and other things I enjoy doing, such as volunteering in my community. It's truly been a blessing! I can share more with you if you're interested.

Hi C.!

I don't know what kind of business you're looking for, but I have a suggestion to share with you. I am a full-time SAHM and I still contribute to our family income. I am a Representative for Silpada Designs Jewelry. I leave the house for very few hours a week in the evenings and on weekends when my husband is home, so we save on childcare costs and anxiety! The rest of the time, I work from home. This has saved me!

It is a VERY profitable business! I typically average $75-100 an hour and make my own schedule. You can't beat it! Anyone can do this! Browse my website below and go to the Business Opportunity section to learn more. I make GOOD money and I'm surrounded by a huge support system. I can even earn free vacations. It has impacted my life in an amazing way!

I wanted to share this with you as an alternative to going into the office everyday, and then giving half of your paycheck to daycare. I love this business and never want to do anything else! Visit my website and see if this fits into your life. Call me anytime ###-###-#### - I would gladly answer any questions you may have. Let me know if I can help you in any way! Did I mention it was also FUN?!?
