My friends 4 month old has a dry spot on the left side of his forehead and it oozes out white stuff...like puss. She has tried all kinds of lotions and ointments but nothing seems to work. She hasn't asked the doctor, she's going to wait till Tuesday when he goes for his shots. Do any of you have a suggestion.

So What Happened?

Well she hasn't taken him to the doctor...but her mom gave her some eczema like medicine to put on it and it did wonders so until Tuesday she will use it. She called the doctor and he didn't seem worried so she's probably right and its just eczema.

If its a dry spot it could possibly be eczema, because sometimes it can oose. It would be best if she called her doctor or took him in to see the doctor. It may be an infection of some sort that needs medical treatment

Redness and heat indicate infection. If the spot has red around it, is hot, then a visit to the Dr. is in order.

If the mother is nursing, she might increase her fat intake a bit, things like olive oil and safflower and so on.
If she is not nursing, I would try and find a formula with a bit more fat in it.
Fat is good for the skin and necessary for the child's rapidly developing brain. Fat protects the nerves in the brain and body.

Now, from my handy-dandy PRESCRIPTION FOR NUTRITIONAL HEALING, a book every household should have:
aloe vera gel, green tea extract have antioxident effects that aid in healing.
Calendula oil, chamomile, tea tree oil can all be a soothing wash for the spot.

My son had a strange dermatitis, which went away when I double-rinsed all his baby cloths, sheets and blankets in the washer. In fact, I double rinsed everything for a while, until he grew out of it. The detergent residue was giving him the rashy stuff.

If she is really set on waiting until Tuesday to see a doctor, she may want to call Ask-A-Nurse just for some advice. The number for Shawnee Mission Medical Center Ask-A-Nurse line is: ###-###-####

That is here in the KC Area, though. There may be a number that is connected to a local hospital or at least closer hopsital to Sedalia.

Good luck to your friend!

Take him to the doctor!!!! it could be a spider bit or he cut himself and it is infected. It really could be anything. He needs to be seen by a doctor to get it taken care of.

She needs to call his pediatritian ASAP. I wouldn't be waiting til next Tuesday, whatever it is could get infected or spread.

It's a infant... tell your friend to take the kid to the doctor. It might be infected and that can mean bad business for the child. If she don't, that will be considered to be child neglect. (No offence to you but to your friend... DUH!)
