Has anyone worked with an online parenting support tool or coach? I am looking into help/advice with raising my kids and I came across positive parenting solutions. An online parenting educator that gives you information on parenting, advice, support and one on one coaching tips. Has anyone used this service before or one like it? I have read many love and logic books and even took a class which was helpful but I am looking for more one on one support. TIA

What can I do next?

My favorite online parenting coach is a site I found called Mamapedia! :-)

I did not have family around when daughter was born and still don't.

I am too skeptical of things like you mention. I'd be more apt to see a family counselor who is certified vs something online wanting $$$.

I found it helpful to have a good group of mom friends (we were all neighbors with no family around) and we spent a lot of time together like breakfast a couple times a week, playmates almost daily, etc. I realize I was fortunate with my group of mom friends. That's hard to do sometimes.

Our children were different and we all saw different parenting styles while raising our children together. Our children are now aged 19-23 and STILL friends after each family moved on and up. We stay in contact with each other to this day. Maybe not daily like in the past but we still have each other's backs.

Mamapedia is a good resource for all types of issues with children and parenting ideas. It's free!!! You don't love all the opinions you get but that's what makes this site so nice! If everyone thought alike it would be worthless!

I worked with a parenting coach when my son was younger and I felt completely overwhelmed trying to juggle a full time professional career and home. I didn't have parents or relatives or friends that I could lean on for support. It was well worth the expense, and I realized I wasn't doing as horribly as I thought. Look for someone who has PCI certification.

In my opinion, it really isn't any different than someone as a therapist for help working through personal issues.

Traditionally this is what our own parents/grandparents are for.
Although that doesn't always work - sometimes we need to break bad habits our parents had in the parenting department.
If you Google 'Parent mentoring' - you find some hits - but many of these are for foster/adoptive parents and dealing with special needs kids.
The thing with parenting is - different kids need different parenting styles sometimes even in the same family - and what works with one may not work with another.
Everyone has their own opinion on how to handle any given situation.
As with any advice - take what you need and ignore the rest.

Our son worked with an ADHD coach he Skyped with online. We interviewed her first over the phone. I think it's a great option, but you need to do your research and make sure it's a reliable advisor.
