One Ovary

Dear mums, first of all I want to thank you all for your support. I had the laparoscopy on Monday to remove a dermoid cyst. Unfortunately my right ovary was also removed as the cyst was to large. I am feeling better every day, my only concern is the fact that I only have one ovary. I wondering how is this going to affect me on the long run. Does any of you have experience with this? It would help to hear some opinions. Thank you very much!

What can I do next?

You will be fine. I had a cyst on my left ovary that ruptured and they had to take the tube as well.

I got pregnant. My hormones were fine. That is the reason we have two of many things so that if one fails the other will work.

Take a deep breath in and let it out slowly and heal physically. Don't sweat the small stuff.

I don't see how it will affect you at all on a daily or monthly basis once you are recovered from the effects of the surgery itself.

And based on your prior posts about your abusive marriage, I think you should not focus one whit on fertility but on being healthy in every other way. You need to be safe, and you need to not be shoved and slapped. You need to gain financial independence. Please re-read the advice you got on those questions and stop focusing on anything that takes you away from that.

I'm glad your surgery went well and that you are recovering. Lots of women live just fine with one ovary. Onward and upward!

A friend of mine had one of her ovaries removed a number of years ago(don't remember exactly why right now). She was able to conceive "the regular way" and had 2 beautiful children....I think it may have taken a "little longer" since she ovulated every other month

Fell better
take care

I only had one ovary after a tubal pregnancy ruptured. I had normal periods and life was great. When the other ovary is gone the biological process still happens. It doesn't send out signals to one ovary one month then sends out a different signal to the other one the next month...I thought they did that...lol.

When they system signals the next phase of your cycle the body part that gets that signal will still produce what it needs to produce. Normally.

I'd say you might want to discuss with your doc about the number of eggs and stuff the remaining one has so you can be completely comfortable with the idea of still being able to have children or donate eggs or anything you want to do.
